In the era of the Industrial Revolution 4.0, Rector of IPB University, Prof. Dr. Arif Satria said that technology 4.0 is not only about drones, blockchain, artificial intelligence or the internet of things (IoT), but revolution 4.0 is a matter of mindset, changing ways of thinking, ways of behaving,  including leadership.  "Therefore, the lecture material given to students must have the latest content," he said while giving a speech in the International Vocational Education Seminar held at IPB International Convention Center (IICC) Bogor, (4/12).

"We must renew the development of lecture material.  Especially in economics and technology.  Must be up to date with current developments.  Aligning lecture material with current technological and industrial developments can bring an industrial atmosphere at the Vocational School of IPB University.  We also try to connect and match between universities and the industrial world.  Vocational Schools were established to be able to adapt to the development of skills and job development that is so dynamic, "he added.

Currently IPB University is devoting its energy to reconstruct the curriculum into the 2020 curriculum in order to achieve the educational objectives of IPB 4.0.  This IPB 4.0 education wants to produce agile and resilient students.

According to him, this curriculum will use the development of new and advanced mindset and skills.  The curriculum is designed by integrating hard skills and soft skills to produce students as nimble and strong students.  Provide space or flexibility for students to develop themselves and their insights, provide space for lecturers to apply creative learning methods, and apply a more varied assessment of learning outcomes.

"Agile learners need 16 skills for the 21st century.  As basic literacy, students will develop literacy, numeracy, scientific, information and communication, financial, cultural and citizenship skills.  As for student competencies, they will learn critical thinking skills, creativity, communication and collaboration.  In addition, to improve the quality of character, students will be guided to develop their curiosity, initiative, perseverance, adaptability, leadership, social and cultural awareness skills.  We believe that all of these skills will be able to answer the challenges of human resources in the future, "he added.

Meanwhile, according to the Dean of the Vocational School of IPB University, Dr. Arief Daryanto, the challenge faced today is the existence of a community mindset towards vocational education which is still a second choice.

"Currently the Vocational School has collaborated with the government of West Java to develop the role of vocational in growing the regional economy and to reduce poverty and unemployment in West Java.  For this reason, on this occasion, we will see the best models from various countries that have organized Vocational Schools.  In attendance today, some from Germany, the Netherlands and countries in Southeast Asia, "he said.  (dh / zul)
