To improve the reading culture of children, teenagers and mothers in Ciherang Village, Dramaga, Bogor, West Java, Professor of IPB University, Prof Euis Sunarti, established the Reading Park and Storytelling program. This activity is one of the activities of the Family Friendly Village program in the Dosen Pulang Kampung (Dospulkam) program.

The Family Friendly Village model is one of IPB University’s social innovations developed by Prof Euis Sunarti, a lecturer at the Department of Family and Consumer Sciences, Faculty of Human Ecology, which still needs enrichment and strengthening in its implementation.

“Taman Baca was chosen as a generic package of the Family Friendly Village program because it will always be needed, especially in dealing with the problem of gadget use in children,” said Prof Euis.

In Ciherang Village, she found children whose reading skills were still lagging behind. The Taman Baca that she initiated is expected to encourage parents and children to improve their reading skills.

“Reading is an important activity to increase knowledge, as a basis for forming positive perceptions, attitudes and actions. Building love for reading can also be encouraged through storytelling and storytelling activities, especially for children,” she said.

Taman Baca as one of the Dosen Pulang Kampung programs has facilitated the provision of quality books for children, teenagers, and mothers in Ciherang Village, Ciherang Village, Dramaga District. Children, mothers, as well as RW and RT administrators were very enthusiastic about this activity.

Prof Euis said, one of the targets of this activity is to facilitate several people from teenagers and or other adults (mothers and fathers) who volunteer in the management of Taman Baca as storytellers and book management. This is so that this program can provide broad benefits and can even be sustained. (*/Rz) (IAAS/PRP)
