Silver Reunion of IPB University Class of 31: Strengthening Alma mater, Talking about the Future

Approximately 630 alumni attended the 25 Years of Silver Reunion of IPB University 31st Generation Alumni at Koleksi Park, IPB Baranangsiang Campus, Saturday (31/8). In Ngorek or Ngopi Sareng Rector, Dr. Arif Satria conveyed that he used to talk about past time during reunion. “But now let’s talk about the future. Alumni who have spread throughout the country and even abroad certainly have a lot of experience and knowledge that can be developed for the improvement of both alumni and alma mater. I really appreciate each reunion event because it is intended to strengthen both IPB University and alumni,” said the Rector.

When class of 31 was in the first level, which was called the Joint Preparation Level (TPB), a lot of impressions were felt on the leadership of Prof. AA Mattjik who was serving as TPB Director at that time. Thus, the 31st generation alumni invited him to this reunion. Regarding the strict rules of study at IPB University, especially at the first level, Prof. AA Mattjik said, “The drop out (DO) system is still maintained until now to choose students who can really survive studying at IPB. DO is what has become the scourge of first-year students,” said Mattjik, greeted by smiles and laughter from the participants.

An IPB University lecturer who is also a class of 31 alumni, Dr. Mukhammad Najib conveyed the comparison of the characters of past and current students. “In the past, there was a distance between students and lecturers. But today’s students are far more independent, more expressive. There is almost no distance, they can communicate on social media and get closer. Besides that, current students have their own way of solving problems.”

Wisnu Tirtha, Chairperson of the 31st Generation Reunion themed “Shine Like A Star, Anytime, Anywhere” who was also elected as the Chairperson of the 31st Generation Alumni said, “This moment is important to gather, to keep in touch, and to remember memories about our togetherness for four years studying at IPB University.” (dh/ris/zsp)
