Bogor Agricultural University (IPB) once again produced associate degree graduates as high-quality human resources who are ready to develop agriculture sector in a wide scope. During the graduation ceremony of Vocational School program this month, IPB bestowed diplomas to 1.123 associate degree graduates in Graha Widya Wisuda (GWW) building, IPB Dramaga campus, Bogor (7-8/11).

In his greeting, IPB Rector, Dr. Arif Satria said that in the midst of competition between Polytechnic or other vocational school graduates, IPB equips its students with various soft skills during their study. This was said to reject the narrative that most of university graduates are job seekers instead of job creators.

"Because of that, IPB keeps on striving to produce graduates who are adaptable to changes, can control changes, and students that can contribute to the changes. IPB keeps on self-evaluating and today we have to start thinking how to reform our curriculum, as 2019 curriculum is our key to produce IPB graduates as technopreneurs and sociopreneurs," said the Rector.

During that opportunity, the Rector advised the graduates to keep improving themselves so they fulfill the ten characteristics of a successful person. Those characteristics are studious, honest or having integrity, creative, -discipline and hard-working, having social sensitivity, communicative, having complex problem solving & critical thinking, service orientation, negotiation, and cognitive flexibility, leadership, emotionally intelligent, and good interpersonal skill, and the last one being collaborative.

It is important to know that IPB with IPB Alumni Organization (HA) cooperate to develop students' leadership through mentorship programs from successful alumni. This is a part of IPB's effort to prepare the students to be leaders in the future.

"We hope IPB Alumni will become stronger and cohesive, in line with the spirit of "One Heart One IPB" for the sake of developing IPB and Indonesia in practice in agriculture sector," said the Rector.

In that opportunity also, in front of the graduates and invited guests, Rector invited the audience to pray for the victims of Lion Air JT-610 disaster.

"Let us pray especially for our sister, Idha Susanti, a Plant Biology Doctorate Student, who is also a victim. Besides that, let's also pray for our brothers and sisters who were struck by earthquakes and tsunami in Lombok, Palu, Donggala, and Sigi. IPB keeps on assisting, both in short-term, middle-term, or long-term, to help the survivors," he said.

During emergency situations, according to him, IPB has collected donations for disaster survivors. IPB collaborates with HA to grant scholarships and financial support while they are studying in IPB for the seriously impacted students. IPB also helps students from Palu, Donggala, and Sigi to go back to their hometowns.

Besides that, IPB facilitates students of Tadulako University who were impacted by the disasters to study in IPB temporarily with credit earning mechanism for free (free of tuition or UKT) for relevant majors. The credits will be recognized by Tadulako University. In the future, IPB will take part in disaster mitigation and recovery, to revive and develop agriculture, animal husbandry, and fisheries potentials in Lombok, Palu, Donggala, and Sigi post-disaster. IPB will also give input for resettlement of areas vulnerable to disasters.

After this graduation ceremony, IPB has 155.262 alumni. Alumni have a strategic role to develop the nation and to develop IPB especially, reflecting what they have learned in IPB. (Ard)
