Department of MSP IPB University Celebrates IPB 74th Antime Golden Reunion by Stocking Fish and Planting Tree Seedlings

Education staff, lecturers, and students of the Department of Aquatic Resources Management (MSP) of the Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Science (FPIK) IPB University facilitated the stocking of fish in Lake SDGs at IPB Dramaga Campus in the activities of the IPB 74th Antime Golden Reunion on 30/4.

This activity was in collaboration with Politeknik Ahli Usaha Perikanan (AUP) Cikaret Bogor. In the activity, nilem (Ostechilus vittatus) fish seeds were stocked in the SDGs Lake of IPB University and Tabebuya (Tabebuia rosea) tree seedlings were planted along the lake banks.

Chairman of the Department of MSP FPIK IPB University, Prof Hefni Effendi, the golden reunion of Antime IPB 74 at Lake SDGs is a form of solidarity from IPB University alumni and love for the alma mater.

“In addition to maintaining friendship, this activity also commemorates Earth Day which is celebrated every 22 April. This activity is very useful because it involves many IPB University residents. Things like this are real evidence of IPB alumni for social and environmental awareness,” he said.

“The philosophy of choosing nilem fish species is to fill the empty food niches in Lake SDGs. This is known because before the activity, the team from the MSP Department of FPIK IPB University with the coordinator Dr Charles PH Simanjuntak had conducted a series of aquatic ecological studies for two years in Lake SDGs to determine the species composition (taxa) and abundance of fish in Lake SDGs,” said Prof Hefni.

He explained that Lake SDGs is an iconic lake in the neighbourhood of IPB Darmaga campus. Around this lake there is a plaza that can be used as a place to hold activities with outdoor concepts by the lake. Then there is also a sign board about 17 concepts of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

“Tabebuya trees have a variety of colours when the flowers have bloomed, the selection of Tabebuya trees because of the diversity of the colours of the flowers, namely white, yellow and pink which will add to the aesthetic value of the SDGs Lake,” said Prof Hefni.

Prof Hefni Effendi also encouraged the staff and students of the MSP Department who participated in this fish seed stocking activity. “The MSP Department has provided two rubber boats and a number of life jackets (safety equipment) as personal protective equipment (PPE) for the participants in the activity,” he explained.

This activity was attended by the Rector of IPB University Prof Arif Satria. In his speech, Prof Arif stated that alumni are the most effective public relations figure or campus ambassador in promoting their alma mater outside the campus environment.

The activity was also attended by Deans from the Faculty of Agriculture, School of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences, Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences, Faculty of Animal Sciences, Faculty of Forestry and Environment and Faculty of Agricultural Technology. After all the activities were completed, the participants of the IPB 74 Antime Golden Reunion also visited the IPB Future Museum and Gallery. (*/Lp) (IAAS/RUM)
