Campus Orientation for New Students Program (MPKMB) Bogor Agricultural University (IPB) the 55th generation officially entered the second day. Held at Graha Widya Wisuda Building, IPB Dramaga Campus (15/8), the event themed “Growing The Love for Agriculture to Prepare The Excellent Generation of IPB in Welcoming The Industrial Revolution 4.0” colored by thousands of troops dressed in batik who looked very enthusiastic shouting their motivation songs and jargon passionately to go through the day.

Started with the explanation of “Success Studying in IPB” by Vice Rector for Education and Students Affairs, Dr. Drajat Martianto, as many as 3.817 new students received a full explanation about campus life regulation such as discipline guidelines, academic guidelines, dress code guidelines, behavior guidelines etc.

“ Other people trust and your reputation will determine your life wherever you are in the future, both in daily life of business life. We hope IPB students although they had been graduated will keep becoming a learner by continue deepening scientific field and spread benefits in society,” said Dr. Drajat.

He added with the time situation that is shifting toward digital technology, academic system of IPB is also adjusting to the current changes. “Currently IPB is developing supporting facilities for digital-based learning. IPB students are also much involved in creative and interactive learning process so students will be able to have teaching-learning activity not only inside the classroom,” he conveyed.

After understanding more about academic system in IPB, this newest generation were burned with enthusiasm and proud of becoming IPB student by the presence of Aang Permana (Founder and CEO of Crispy Si Petek), Fathan Kamil (Chief of IPB Alumni Association) who is also CEO of PT. Transamudera Usaha Sejahtera and Chairul Tanjung (CEO of CT Corp).

“ I am oriented to three things in my life, those are be grateful, be determined, and be responsible. My way to be grateful is when I realize that I came from impoverished family, so I choosed to be an active student who always wants to learn about many things. Since my freshman year, I learned to sell anything that is salable, it can be banana molen, doughnut and many others. I was also active in organization of Lembaga Dakwah Kampus dan Lembaga Dakwah Fakultas,” Aang mentioned.

This young entrepreneur who is alumni from Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Science (FPIK) 45th generation used to work at one of petroleum company. His inspiration to start a business came up when he was on duty visiting many regions in Indonesia and had time to stop at local gifts shop.

“I  have found that each region has their own uniqueness and characteristics, one of them is from fisheries. Well, at that time I remembered that in my hometown Cianjur there is one typical fish namely Petek fish. This fish is abundant, but have not been processed and managed well because its fishy smell. Whereas smelly fishes are rich of protein,” he said.

The figure who received award of Kick Andy Hero 2017 has known not only because his crispy fish business is a hit, but also because people empowerment that he is doing by involving working mothers in their 40s. Those women are chosen with aim to empower mothers who are in the age where it is difficult to get a job at formal sectors.

Owning the business with product distribution reached dozens of cities in Indonesia does not immediately make Aang become arrogant. He is very open to share the business knowledge that he engages in, especially with novice entrepreneurs who are also IPB students.

He left a message,” The responsibility of future Indonesia agriculture is on IPB students today. Indonesia will not be developed only because those talented people who flocks in Jakarta. However, Indonesia will be great if each young man back to their hometown and develop his hometown,” he closed.

The same thing was also mentioned by Fathan Kamil, an entrepreneur slash Chief of IPB Alumni Association (HA IPB), about the importance of being grateful to be a part of the best state agricultural campus. The entrepreneur who has billions of rupiah revenue stated that the embodiment of grateful of God’s gift to be part of IPB is by fulfilling the trust and being responsible as good as possible as a student.

“There are some important points for me to be remembered in the journey of achieving success, those are build knowledge or insight to be able to determine the direction that we want to take, sharpen the vision base, implement the vision in concrete prospective with the support of the owned resources, do implementation steps which is compatible with owned resources such as social networks, and focus on the target by keep doing monitoring and evaluation,” he said.

For him, every life goals depend on faith and fate. Each aspiring entrepreneurs who want to widen their business base will face some kind of test, during that time, the most important is when an individual is dealing with the test, they can keep striving to be strong to go through it. “Each life goal is only about faith and fate. Wherever you will live and work, be the best leader,” he concluded.

In addition to talk show from inspiring speakers, series of MPKMB day two was also enlivened with attractive show from Perkusi Eksplorasi created by Marine Science and Technology students and also Agricultural Parade which was mobilized by KM Student Executive Board (BEM KM IPB) and IPB Movement Academy (API).

Name of Chairul Tanjung must be already familiar for Indonesian people. The owner of one of multinational companies, CT Corp, has inspiring story and life journey and motivate many people to work hard to achieve their dreams. “Success is everyone’s right but not everyone can be successful. Successful people are people who won the game. Therefore, all of you who are lucky to be destined as a part of IPB Campus must be proud and able to prove that we who gather here can be excel than others,” he said.

Entrepreneur who nicknamed “Chairul Anak SIngkong” said that entrepreneurs are the people who can see opportunity. If someone is unable to read the opportunity then they are not entrepreneur. “When you see an opportunity, catch it. Even if there are no opportunity, let us create that opportunity,” he conveyed.

Started his business for the first time when freshman year in college by selling copies of lecture dictates with first profit about Rp. 15.000-, Chairul Tanjung believes that his leadership spirit came up during the hardship time. The financial inability that he faced does not make his opportunity to become “the winner” disappear.

According to him, when we want to win in an increasingly difficult competition like now, we need to have innovation, creativity, and entrepreneurship spirit. In the era of industrial revolution 4.0, data is becoming the most precious asset. Someone who control the data may control the world.

The former Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs in SBY era also stated, two things that are most essential in becoming an entrepreneur are networking and human resources. Networking can be build from any place, it can be from friends, formal or non-formal organization, customers, suppliers, or even today it can be from social media.

“I was an activist during my college years. I even had become the student senate. From those organizational activities I gained many networks,” mentioned this 6th richest businessman in Indonesia 2010.

For him, money is not the main capital to achieve success. Proper human resources management with personality development, intelligence and enrichment of experiences become the precious and important things.

There are 10 points of The CT Ways that were explained in the material of Entrepreneurship in The Industrial Era , those are start any business with good intention; read and catch the opportunity; if there is none, then create opportunity; money is not the main capital; become poor is not the reason to not strive; buy the future with the present value; make failures as best friend; work hard, never give up; detail; do not compromise to the final result and discipline; intuition is a rational thing; make decision; find the solution and not the problem; pragmatism and idealism are not oil and water; also seek for God’s bless in every step.

Chairul Tanjung also said, after visiting IPB, he is planning to initiate collaboration creating Leisure Farm. (qa)
