The implementation of the Computer-Based Written Test (UTBK) for National Selection Based Test (SNBT) 2023 at IPB University has taken place in two batches since 8 May and ends today, 26 May. Behind the smooth implementation of the exam at IPB University, the role of information and communication technology (ICT) is needed.

IPB University's ICT Coordinator, Dr Shelvie Nidya Neyman explained, there are several roles of ICT related to the process of organising UTBK-SNBT at IPB University. One of them is preparing the local server and computer configuration used for the exam.

"Our strategy is to make a network for exams using cables to be separate from wireless networks (Wi-Fi). Then we limit the connection to the local server only, so the computer cannot access the internet and other sites," he said.

Furthermore, he explained that the process was carried out in the morning. The server admin will unseal the envelope of exam questions taken from the central server, then downloaded to the local server of IPB University. Then in the exam room, the supervisor is required to log in first and there is a special supervisor pin.

"The exam is divided into two sessions in a day and the pin will be different. We also take it in the application for the ICT coordinator. After that, the computers are ready and fit to be used by the examinees," added Dr Shelvie.

She added that the most important task of TIK IPB University is to ensure that all installation processes run smoothly. For this reason, one of the preparations made is by attending training related to the application that will be used by the ICT manager organised by the central committee of the National Selection of New Student Admissions (SNPMB) long before the exam.

"So things related to the implementation of UTBK-SNBT at IPB University this year are all running in accordance with the direction of the central committee," she said.

Dr Shelvie said, as many as 30 people of IPB University's ICT committee were deployed for the smooth running of the exam. IPB University provides as many as 840 computers spread across several exam locations, including the Institute for Information Management and Digital Transformation (LMITD), Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Faculty of Agricultural Technology, Faculty of Animal Sciences, Faculty of Economics and Management and Vocational School.

"The implementation of UTBK-SNBT 2023 is different from last year, because the central committee was different before. This makes the system different from the previous year," she concluded. (Ns/Rz) (IAAS/RUM)
