As a part of efforts to strengthen good relations, IPB University Rector, Prof Arif Satria invited media colleagues to have iftar together at Resto Taman Koleksi, Baranangsiang campus, Bogor on April 15th.

During the occasion, Prof Arif Satria shared about two flagship programs of IPB University, namely the OSIS Chairman Pathway and The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People Training. According to him, the success of both programs has led many other universities to adopt them.

“A leadership attitude cannot be formed only during student’s study period or with a duration of 4 years. This aspect needs to start earlier, namely from the time prospective students are in school,” said Prof Arif.

He continued, in the past, to get admitted to IPB University, students had to have good grades, but now not only that, they also need to have leadership abilities. “The chairman of senior high school OSIS is almost always a member of the junior high school OSIS management. For 3 years, they have been serving others, making decisions, partaking in conflict management, making proposals, public speaking, negotiating, lobbying, and even being able to move people,” explained the IPB University Rector.

With such criteria, he sees prospective OSIS Chairmen as excellent seeds for future IPB University students.

On Friday, April 14th, IPB University officially announced the names of participants who passed the selection through the OSIS Chairman Pathway. Out of a total of 1,189 applicants for the Undergraduate OSIS Chairman Pathway and 155 applicants for the Vocational School OSIS Chairman Pathway, 345 people were declared successful in the selection for the Undergraduate OSIS Chairman Pathway and 73 people were declared successful in the selection for the Vocational School OSIS Chairman Pathway.

During the event, the Secretary of the Institute (SI) of IPB University, Prof Agus Purwito, also introduced the new organizational structure of IPB University to the media, with changes to four deputy rectors and new heads of institutions established this year.

Meanwhile, IPB University Vice Rector for Research, Innovation and Agromaritime Community Development, Prof Ernan Rustiadi, conveyed the performance of IPB University research thus far.

The Head of the Leadership and Executive Education Institution (LKPE) of IPB University, Prof Arief Darjanto, explained that IPB University has been focusing on student leadership. However, based on the experience of Wageningen University & Research (WUR) Rector, the key to success lies in preparing leaders at the structural level.

“We will develop leadership modules. There will be a program called the Executive Leadership Training (ELT) program for directors, deans, educational personnel, and both internal and external IPB University lecturers,” he said. (Ns/Rz) (IAAS/SND)
