Preparing the Agriculture Center, IPB Elevates Its Contribution to the Nation

The use of information and communication technology currently is more effective and efficient for the innovation transfer in agriculture. For that, IPB University is forming a new organization unit called Tani Center or Agriculture Center. It is an organization that will play a great role in giving information service to the farmers, breeders, and fishermen in Indonesia. “Agriculture Center is a part of IPB’s efforts to keep increasing its contribution for the society and this nation,” said IPB Rector, Dr. Arif Satria when inaugurating 84 new officials in Grha Widya Wisuda (GWW), IPB Dramaga Campus, Bogor (1/2).

Agriculture Center is built to increase the access to information from researchers so the knowledge transformation process to the farmers can be updated. It becomes a new innovative communication media of IPB to the farmers. It utilizes the internet and the communication through computer and interactive digital multimedia to bridge the knowledge transformation process and latest technology in agriculture fast.

“Agriculture Center can give offline and online services for the farmers in Indonesia. Farmers can get inspired by innovations by IPB. It is not only a one way from IPB to farmers, but it also caters the inputs of information from the farmers. So, all inventions of IPB for the farmers can be disseminated all across Indonesia,” he added.

Agriculture Center will also utilize artificial intelligence (AI) in its services. Artificial intelligence can create more efficiency in roles of experts since it has been accommodated by the AI.

“The experts can contribute in the management of big data so the collected data can give recommendation for the farmers. This is our work to keep increasing our contribution to our nation,” he concluded.
