Veterinarians Ready to Supervise Animal Drug Use in Ranch Business Communities
In January 2018 the Indonesian government imposed a ban on the full implementation of the use of Antibiotic Growth Promoters / AGP (antibiotic feed additives). It is a global issue related to a backdrop of anti-microbial resistance which is now a transnational threats regardless of geographical borders and have an impact on public health, animals and the environment.
In the meeting of the United Nations (UN) in New York on 21 September 2016 world leaders expressed political declaration for controlling antimicrobial resistance. “There are currently at least 50 thousand people every year are victims of anti-microbial resistance in Europe and the United States. Often the use of drugs in farm businesses almost unavoidable because the cattle have to be able to produce optimally. In general, the veterinarian can provide insight to farm businesses. The role of the veterinarian is needed in the monitoring of the use of veterinary drugs also control the circulation of illegal veterinary drugs. Not to mention the use of veterinary medicines that are not controlled, it is also the risk of antibiotic resistance in animals and humans, “said Muhammad.
