IPB Rector Gives Public Lecture in Front of Hundreds of PISPI Members

Rector of the Institut Pertanian Bogor (IPB), Dr. Arif Satria explained the transformation of industry 4.0 at IPB in front of hundreds of members of the Indonesian Agricultural Scholarship Association (PSPI) in the Auditorium of the Common Class Room, Dramaga Campus, Bogor (13/12). In the public lecture that was held to commemorate the 8th Anniversary of the Indonesian Islamic Boarding School, Dr. Arif said that IPB was being transformed in an effort to respond to changes that occurred due to disruption in the era of the Industrial Revolution 4.0.

“The era of disruption changed things in IPB. In terms of education, IPB is currently developing policies and technical measures for IPB 4.0 education to educate students who are millennial generations to become powerful agile learners. In terms of research and development of innovation, IPB encourages IPB 4.0 Research and Innovation, “he said.

The research and innovation has one characteristic, high-precision agronomy through the use of drone technology, robotics, artificial intelligence in the upstream agricultural and marine sectors. Two, agro-industry for the future. Three, digital agrologistic systems. And smart e-commerce system.

In terms of community service, IPB has a concept of Community Service 4.0 that encourages downstreaming of innovations that become solutions for communities, industries and the government.

“IPB is committed to creating a prosperous, sovereign, just and sustainable Indonesia. Not long ago, IPB carried out the launch of the Agro-Maritime 4.0 concept which was present to address the problems of the de-selectivity of agro-maritime development, environmental degradation and natural resources, low community welfare, food insecurity, low agro-maritime sector contribution to economic growth, and “development inequality between regions in Indonesia,” he added.

Meanwhile, for students, currently the curriculum at IPB is expected to be able to change perspectives from process orientation to business model, from individual orientation to public orientation through collaboration. Students are able to run a system of critical and visionary thinking, creative, innovative, high curiosity, holistic, oriented towards sustainability and equality.

“They must have the character of learners, be brave, honest, inclusive, have integrity, discipline and hard work, have high awareness and social sensitivity, are emotionally intelligent and interpersonal, have leadership skills, and are responsible, have millennial skills that are indicated by good communication skills , able to collaborate in solving problems, being able to utilize technology for change, utilizing data for problem-solving (data driven decision making), having the ability and willingness of self-learning through various information and education platforms that are openly available, “he said.

While for IPB graduates, the Rector hopes that as an agro-maritime actor in the future, IPB graduates become technopreneur and sociopreneur with a number of new competencies in accordance with era 4.0. Being superior and adaptive to change and able to support a more equitable economic transformation process.

“IPB graduates are expected to be able to determine the direction of national development and become agents to accelerate the realization of Agro-Maritime 4.0 goals through their work in various fields of work and business,” he said.

While the Chairperson of the PISPI, Sunarso, in his lecture conveyed the important role of agriculture which had contributed to the country’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and employment providers for the people. (NR)
