“Right now, we are faced with two main problems. First, the global society is faced with food, energy, and environmental crisis, that will affect mankind’s lives quality. Second, currently we are in the era of Industrial Revolution 4.0, which is marked by the expansion of internet utilization for everything (Internet of Things), development of artificial intelligence, and utilization of big data. Everything is followed by the massive development of technology and innovation,” said Bogor Agricultural University (IPB) Rector, Dr. Arif Satria, in the Graduation Ceremony and Diploma Handover Batch III, Academic Year 2018/2019, Wednesday (12/12) in IPB Dramaga Campus, Bogor.

IPB Rector added, those two challenges needed human resources readiness to be able to compete and contribute to accomplish the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). IPB had emphasized its role in increasing human resources competitiveness and in the national development through IPB Vision 2045; Becoming Techno-socio Entrepreneurial University. To achieve that vision, IPB needs to do various transformation in education, research, and community service.

“In terms of education, IPB is currently preparing education for millennials generation that has these characteristic and dimensions;  education that prepares graduates to be competitive along with the many new professions; education based on data literacy and Information and Communication (ICT), technology literacy, and human and cultural literacy; education that encourages students to have millennium soft skills, leadership and entrepreneurship and education that builds character of nationalism, integrity, and high social conscience. In terms of research and innovation development, IPB supports Research and Innovation 4.0 which characterized with; high precision agro-maritime through drone, robotics, artificial intelligence technologies in the upstream of agriculture and maritime sectors; digital agro-logistic system and smart e-commerce system. As for community service, IPB has the concept of Community Service 4.0. The concept will encourage down-streaming of innovations to become the solution for the community, industry, and government,” said IPB Rector.

IPB Rector further explained, IPB kept emphasizing its role its role in the national development through the concept of Agro-Maritime 4.0 to respond the challenges of SDGs and Industrial Revolution 4.0 in agriculture. The directions of Agro-Maritime 4.0 are actualizing the agro-maritime ecosystem recovery, agro-maritime management that is inclusive, fair, beneficial and prosperous, sovereignty in production of food and non-food, competitive agro-maritime and trade industries, strengthening of infrastructure connectivity and agro-maritime value chain between areas, and strengthening of human resources, knowledge, and technology. According to IPB Rector, IPB had contributed in various activities to support SDGs accomplishment. The activities could be categorized into four pillars; social, economic, environment, and law and governance pillars.

In the ceremony, IPB graduated its best graduates as qualified human resources that were ready to develop agriculture in board meaning. In this batch graduation ceremony, IPB gave diploma certificate to 800 graduates, which consisted of 530 graduates from undergraduate program, 25 graduates from Veterinary Professional Education program, 216 graduates from magister program, and 29 graduates from doctoral program.

Until this batch graduation, IPB had have 156.538 alumni. IPB Alumni Association could keep increasing and developing partnerships, so IPB Alumni could get stronger and solid with the spirit of “One Heart, One IPB” to develop IPB and Indonesia concretely in agricultural sector in board meaning.

IPB Rector hoped that IPB graduates were able to become the lead of national development and become the agents to foster the accomplishment of Agro-Maritime 4.0 purposes through their contribution in many sectors. “Plan your future thoroughly and prepare yourself because luck will arrive when opportunity meets preparation,” said IPB Rector (CN).
