To Commemorate the 53rd Anniversary, IPB Organized Social Service to Create School Garden

Institute for Research and Community Service of Bogor Agricultural University (LPPM IPB) organized Social Service at Park School of SMPN 14, Situ Gede Village,  Bogor Barat subdistrict, Bogor City, on Saturday, 3 September 2016. The present Partnership Program with the Communities of Villages Around the Campus is organized to celebrate the  53rd  anniversary of IPB.

 

Chairman of the Organizing Committee, Warcito, SP, MM said that the Parks School is designed to introduce a variety of ornamental plants for school students, to enable them to  have outdoor classroom where they comfortably, cool, peacefully. Our school garden provides the context to learn about the world we live in.

 

The principle of SMPN 14 Situ Gede, Sapta Sahesti, M.Pd, acknowledge and expressed her sincere thanked for IPB that created the school garden. "It’s like a tit for tat, because SMPN 14 in August 2016 was named one of the best the school with cultured environment in West Java. We expect that IPB will provide guidance for greening program of  this school. This is an exciting and important task. we teach students basic academic skills, we can incorporate learning processes that will help them be informed, knowledgeable, responsible citizens., "she said.

 

Secretary of LPPM IPB, Dr. Agus Oman Sudrajat, said that the school gardens have  many roles in the life of the school and community. They are living laboratory for  re-greening of the school environment, as outdoor learning environments and as a means to create a sense of season and place for all students. as well as the teaching media for environmental protection and  the conservation management program around us. "It is expected that the school garden will improve the students’ awareness on their environmental protection. It will be their nature conservation station, "he added.

 

On this occasion the students of SMPN 14, the brief explanation on the school’s garden was presented by Faculty member of the Department of Landscape Architecture (ARL) of the Faculty of Agriculture (FAPERTA IPB), Dr. Andi Gunawan. During which he emphasized that the life of the school garden depends very much on the entire community of the school. Furthermore, he convinced that students of the Department of ARL of FAPERTA IPB will help assist the students of SMPN 14 to manage the school garden to keep it lovely and beautifully. (Wied)
