Five IPB University Students Join the Water Conference in South Korea

Five IPB University students had the opportunity to attend the 2019 Korea International Water Week (KIWW) in Daegu, South Korea, last September. They are Muhammad Farid Al Faritsi, Supandi Hermawan, Muhammad Ridho Saputra Sanurbi, Muhammad Agung Sedayu and Umm Salamah Khoiriyah. They are active students who are members of the Indonesian Green Action Forum (IGAF) Student Activity Unit (UKM).

They were speakers and Indonesian delegates at KIWW 2019 managed by the Korea Water Forum. This event is an event that discusses how to overcome and find solutions to the availability of sustainable clean water, as well as presentation of innovations related to clean water management.

Its scope is about global leadership to achieve Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), implement solutions, create economic and social value and exchange ideas. “The activity carried out was the presentation of innovations around clean water attended by 83 countries,” said Supandi Hermawan.

They discussed innovations in the field of water for social and economic development that reflected the issue of clean water in the environment. Examples of innovations discussed are the use of local commodities such as bamboo as a tool or material to clear water that is more economical, easy and efficient for the community. Another innovation discussed is water purification using nano particle technology.

In addition, Umm Salamah Khoiriyah added that this event was very good to be followed, because it could be a place to study, add new knowledge and insights for academics and also people who are engaged in the field of environment, especially water management.

“At this 2019 KIWW event, we were given the opportunity to be speakers to explain the innovations that we brought. Not only that, here we also bring Indonesian culture to be introduced such as batik, songket, and weaving, “said Muhammad Ridho. (NR)
