The Rector of IPB University, Prof Arif Satria, led the commemoration ceremony of National Education Day (Hardiknas) 2024 at the Rectorate Field, Dramaga Campus, IPB Bogor (2/5). As the ceremony leader, Prof Arif Satria delivered a speech by the Minister of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology (Mendikbudristek) of the Republic of Indonesia, Nadiem Makarim. The message called for leadership in the Freedom of Learning movement to raise awareness of the challenges and opportunities we have to advance education in Indonesia.

Prof Arif Satria conveyed the directive of Mendikbudristek RI that National Education Day once again emphasizes the importance of equal access to education for Indonesian society. Moreover, the commemoration of National Education Day also reminds us of the importance of developing the quality of education and the role of educators in shaping the future generation.

According to Nadiem Makarim, it is not easy to transform a very large system. It is not a simple task to change perspectives on the learning process.

“At the beginning of the journey, we realize that making changes requires struggle. Discomfort accompanies every step towards improvement and progress,” he said.

Nadiem added that the impact of the pandemic has drastically changed the teaching and learning process and lifestyles. At the same time, the pandemic provides an opportunity to accelerate changes in the field of education. Together, we strive to recover and rise again much stronger.

“We have witnessed that students are ready to create and contribute because the space for learning is no longer limited to campus. We are building a new face of education and culture in Indonesia together with the Independent Learning movement,” said Mendikbudristek.

In his speech, Mendikbudristek stated that five years is not a short time to lead the Independent Learning movement. However, five years is also not a long time to make comprehensive changes.

“All that we have endeavored must be continued as a journey towards realizing the schools we aspire to. With hope, I entrust Independent Learning to all of you, the agents of change who do not know the word surrender to bring Indonesia leaping into the future,” concluded Prof Arif Satria as he delivered Mendikbudristek’s speech.

The atmosphere of the ceremony appeared festive with traditional attire worn by IPB leadership and ceremony participants. On this occasion, the names of outstanding lecturers and students of IPB University were also announced. To complement the festivities, the committee also held the Freedom of Learning – Independence Campus (MBKM) quiz, participated in by students present at the ceremony field. This MBKM quiz is in line with this year’s National Education Day theme: Move Together, Continue Freedom of Learning. (dr/ra) (IAAS/Hap)
