The Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Management (PSL) of the Graduate School (SPs) of IPB University held a training on decision making and multicriteria for sustainability science and disaster management at the Baranangsiang Campus, recently.

This activity was attended by 48 students of PSL IPB UNiversity, both master and doctoral programmes. This training was in collaboration with Envitech Environmental Technology.

Vice Dean of SPs IPB University for Academic and Student Affairs, Prof Agus Buono in his speech said, this training is one of the activities to instil the mindset and ability of quantitative methods of students.

“The ability to think and act, and make decisions based on quantitative methods based on empirical experiments has become a tradition at IPB University,” he said.

He also said, “This training is very important for students, because all decision-making and information discovery based on quantitative principles become the main. This has been recognised by external parties, so that IPB University graduates are always considered qualified for the quantitative field,”

According to Prof Agus, currently the quality of SPs IPB University students is no doubt. This is reflected in the number of publications at IPB University.

“Hopefully, this activity can improve the quality and graduation of PSL IPB University students. Thank you for all the support of those who have carried out this training well,” he added.

Meanwhile, Prof Widiatmaka, Chairman of the Doctoral Study Programme of PSL SPs IPB University said, currently environmental problems often involve numerical values and many variables. Therefore, development decision-making issues based on environmental aspects must be based on quantitative and multicriteria rules.

“Analysis of decision making based on multicriteria is worth knowing the students of PSL IPB University. This training has also been proven to be very helpful for students in research so that the design process, data collection, measurement, analysis and conclusions are faster and more accurate,” he added.

Prof Widiatmaka explained that the purpose of this training was to provide more in-depth knowledge related to various decision-making techniques and multicriteria. This training has been conducted since 2016 until now and is part of the long life learning programme at SPs IPB University. (HBL/Rz) (IAAS/RUM)
