Students of the Environmental Engineering and Management Study Program (Prodi) of IPB University’s Vocational School (SV) have initiated community service activities themed “Hetaman” at SMPN 3 Bogor on 20/10 with supervisor Dr Beata Ratnawati.

Hetaman itself stands for animals, soil, and plants. The Hetaman activity was conducted by educating students of SMPN 3 Bogor about the importance of animal, soil and plant conservation.

“This Hetaman activity was held with the aim of introducing the importance of conservation for the present and the future. Inviting the nation’s children to be more aware of the natural wealth owned by our beloved homeland, so that they can participate in maintaining and preserving the diversity of both flora and fauna,” said Linda Meliana, chief executive of the Hetaman activity.

She continued, with socialisation and practical activities, students were invited to get to know more about endemic animals in Indonesia, direct practice in making organic fertiliser, and planting cat’s whisker plants which have many properties and high selling value in terms of economy.

“We hope that the students of SMPN 3 Bogor can understand how important their role is in the conservation of animals, soil and plants. This awareness is expected to encourage them to actively participate in maintaining the sustainability of the environment around them,” said Linda.

“The Hetaman activity conducted by the senior students from IPB was really exciting! The material explained was easy to understand and we were also taught how to plant cat whiskers. Moreover, there was an exciting games session because we got prizes. The knowledge that I got from this Hetaman activity, I became more aware of protecting the environment.” said one of the students of SMPN 3 Bogor. (*/Lp) (IAAS/RUM)
