Rector of IPB University, Prof Arif Satria explained the importance of generation X as a demographic bonus so that it needs to be a priority in order to encourage the progress of digital transformation in ASEAN. According to him, this effort needs to be helped by an integrated national policy with ASEAN Digital Masterplan 2025.

“Generation X as a digital native needs to be encouraged to be able to adapt to technological developments, because digitalization has become the lifeline of the economy in Southeast Asia during the pandemic so that there is no more digital divide,” said Prof Arif Satria in the National Seminar for the LXV Regular Education Program (PPRA) organized by the National Resilience Institute of the Republic of the Republic of Indonesia, 8/22.

Prof Arif continued, this digital divide is a condition where there is an imbalance of access between one person and another in utilizing modern information and communication technology. “Indonesia is still experiencing delays in responding to contemporary technology. This can be seen from mastering skills only in social media marketing, compared to other Asian countries that have focused on the use of artificial intelligence and robots,” he explained.

According to Prof Arif Satria, strengthening digital skills is also important to face privacy, cybersecurity and competition issues in the ASEAN region. Because currently the value of Indonesia’s ASEAN digital Integration Index (ADII) is still below average, there is still a digital disparity and digital gap.

Rector of IPB University explained, the strength of Indonesia’s digital economy is projected to reach a value of 146 billion by 2025. Thus, it is necessary to strengthen the digital economy through digital transformation. On the other hand, Indonesia can become a trendsetter in ASEAN because it has a large market and production capacity.

“This synergy towards a more sustainable digital future can be achieved by encouraging the advancement of digital transformation that is more inclusive, giving priority to strengthening digital talents, and improving government regulations,” said Prof Arif Satria.

He continued, from the university side, there needs to be a strengthening of technopreneurship through science techno park to accelerate the downstream of ASEAN-level digital innovation as is being pursued by IPB University. (IAAS/MKY)
