Officially, Prof Daniel Murdiyarso Elected as the President of the Indonesian Academy of Sciences for the 2023-2028 Period
Professor of IPB University, Prof Daniel Murdiyarso was elected as President of the Indonesian Academy of Sciences (AIPI) for the period 2023-2028. Prof Daniel was asked as president in the AIPI Plenary Session held at the AIPI Meeting Room, National Library Building 17th Floor, Jakarta (27/6). The meeting also elected Prof Harkristuti Harkrisnowo, Professor of the University of Indonesia as vice president.
The AIPI Plenary Session which was held in a hybrid manner was attended by 46 members out of 66 AIPI members, both as ordinary members and honorary members who do not have voting rights. The Plenary Session was declared to have fulfilled the quorum by the President of the Session based on the provisions of Presidential Decree (Keppres) 6/2016 on the AD / ART.
In their handover speech, Prof Satryo Soemantri Brodjonegoro and Prof Sofian Effendi as President and Vice President of AIPI Leadership V congratulated Prof Daniel Murdiyarso and Prof Harkristuti Harkrisnowo on their mandate. He and Prof Sofian Effendi handed over the leadership relay of AIPI 2023-2028.
"Hopefully Pak Daniel and Mrs Harkristuti will be given strength, blessings and guidance to carry out their duties as President and Vice President of AIPI," he said.
In AIPI there are five commissions in charge of five scientific groups. Carrying the spirit of deliberation, Prof Daniel, who attended the Plenary Session online from Hainan, China, expressed his gratitude for the trust given by the session participants. He also delivered a keynote speech on Blue Carbon.
"Carrying out the task of AIPI leadership is not easy and light. But with the example and support of the leadership of our predecessors as they have opened the way, including the roads that are likely to be difficult, it makes our eyes open. We have to work hard and maybe harder in the future," said Prof Daniel.
Prof Daniel has been a member of AIPI since 2002. The IPB University Professor from the Department of Geophysics and Meteorology, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) is known as a Principal Scientist at the Center for International Forestry Research (CIFOR) with a myriad of achievements. Meanwhile, Prof Harkristuti Harkrisnowo has been appointed as a member of AIPI since 2021. The Professor of the Faculty of Law, University of Indonesia, is known as the founder of the ASEAN Human Rights Resource Centre in 2017.
On the same occasion, Prof Sofian affirmed his full support for Prof Harkristuti to become Vice President of AIPI accompanying Prof Daniel.
"Followed by the views of Indonesia's senior scientist, Prof Emil Salim who affirmed with a short sentence, I agree with the results of the election of Prof Daniel to become President of AIPI," he concluded. (Ns/Rz) (IAAS/RUM)
