IPB University Together with the National University of Singapore Holds a Public Lecture at the Indonesian Embassy in Singapore

IPB University and the National University of Singapore (NUS) with full support from the Indonesian Embassy (KBRI) for Singapore held a Public Lecture entitled 'An Integrated Framework to Develop Real World Solutions in Peatlands Restoration'. The activity took place at the Indonesian Embassy in Singapore, some time ago.

Dr Azis Boing Sitanggang, Assistant Director of International Program Services for the Directorate of Global Connectivity IPB University said, this event was part of the collaboration of IPB University and the NUS Environment Research Institute (NERI) within the framework of the Integrated Tropical Peatlands Restoration Research Program (INTPREP) project which has been ongoing since year 2021.

“The ultimate goal is to expand shared understanding through interaction with local and regional stakeholders in the science of peatlands and climate change. In addition, this event also aims to share information and resources regarding the latest trends in integrative and multidisciplinary approaches in peatland restoration that are socially and ecologically oriented," he said.

The Indonesian Ambassador to Singapore, HE Suryo Pratomo expressed his support and joy for the well-organized event.

Deputy Minister of Environment and Forestry, Dr Alue Dohong expressed his support and hoped that INTPREP 2.0 could be actualized. As an official with a background as a peat researcher, he understands the problems that are occurring in the current peat ecosystem.

"We encourage the addition of socio-economic aspects in the next phase. I expect the involvement of researchers from Indonesia in the transfer of knowledge and skills in the peat field. Hopefully there will be a balance in the number of Indonesian and foreign researchers in scientific publications," he said during his remarks.

Also attending were Prof Low Teck Seng (Vice President of NUS), Prof Arif Satria (Rector of IPB University); Dr Agus Haryono (Deputy for Research and Innovation Facilities at the National Research and Innovation Agency), Prof Sofyan Siregar (Vice Rector for Cooperation at the University of Riau) and Dr Adi Jaya (Director of CIMTROP UPR).

Also present were Prof Ernan Rustiadi, Vice Rector of IPB University in the field of Research, Innovation and Agromaritime Development and Prof Iskandar Z Siregar, Vice Rector of IPB University in the field of Global Connectivity, Cooperation and Alumni Relations. At the Public Lecture, Prof Iskandar had the opportunity to present the topic 'INTPREP: iLessons and Future Plans'. (*/Rz) (IAAS/YMK)
