The Institute for Research and Community Service (LPPM) of IPB University sent 251 students joining IPB Goes to Field (IGTF) students to various regions in Indonesia on Tuesday (7/16). They consisted of 228 IPB University students, 10 University of Indonesia (UPI) students, and 13 Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) students. Those students participated in the IGTF activity in Bogor, Sukabumi, Subang, Pekalongan, Klaten, Boyolali, Kediri, Blitar, Barito Kuala, West Sumatra, and Sungai Besar, Kuala Selangor, Malaysia. The scheduled departure of IGTF was 17 July-10 August 2019.

Rector of IPB University, Dr. Arif Satria said, IGTF students must prepare everything well to live in the community. "Students must be willing to study with the community, to be disciplined, work hard, to be honest, and to sharpen good soft skills to help the community. The ability to understand people's needs is important because their needs are our basis for making research or creating innovations that are beneficial to the community," said Dr. Arif Satria.

Dr. Arif Satria also hoped that IGTF students could truly build a good reputation in the field. "We want not only the IPB University image that is present in the community, but also the spirit in order to provide benefits to the nation," continued the Rector.

Head of LPPM of IPB University, Dr. Aji Hermawan said, IPB Goes to Field (IGTF) is an educational activity in the form of student learning with the community by staying, adapting, collecting data, designing programs, and implementing programs with the community. The IGTF activity is non-curricular which is carried out voluntarily for interested students. It is conducted to facilitate IPB University partners and to improve students' ability to overcome development problems in the community.

"IGTF activity is not to pursue student achievement scores, but IPB University wants to encourage students to contribute to solving problems in society that are in line with the IPB University program, namely IPB Share. Hopefully, this IGTF activity could provide feedback to universities to improve the quality of education and to hone students' soft skills," he said. (Awl/ris/zsp)
