The People's Farmer School (SPR) Institute for Research and Community Service (LPPM) of the Bogor Agricultural Institute (IPB) held the launching of the SPR Secretariat of LPPM IPB which took place at the Wing XII Animal Husbandry Faculty, Dramaga Campus, Bogor. (2/10). This secretariat is a place that makes it easier for relevant stakeholders in the field of animal husbandry to come to communicate or interact to talk about livestock.

Chairperson of IPR LPPM SPR, Prof. Dr. Muladno in his report said that the SPR was established in 2013 by LPPM IPB. However, the idea of ??the SPR was formed on September 19, 2012 and was accepted internationally on September 19, 2018.

The aim of the establishment of the SPR is to provide knowledge to small-scale farmers about various technical aspects of livestock and non-technical. SPR is a farm company that is managed collectively in one management (one manager) in order to increase the competitiveness of its business through assistance, escort, application of technology and information, and transfer of knowledge to increase the income and welfare of farmers.

"SPR has experienced tremendous developments in various regions. This is an encouraging thing because farmers feel that they get great attention in national livestock development. Until now, the SPR initiated institutionally by the IPB LPPM has increased by one more in Pelepat Ilir District, Bungo Regency, Jambi Province, which is called SPR Kuamang Abadi. So now there are 30 SPR LPPM IPBs throughout Indonesia, "he said.

He added that the SPR increasingly shows its existence in the region that has implemented this program. The SPR greatly helps small farmers to develop their livestock to become more profitable.

Prof. Muladno hopes that all universities in Indonesia that have animal husbandry study programs can develop SPR, so that farmers throughout Indonesia can be accompanied by lecturers and students from the closest tertiary institutions not necessarily with IPB. Thus, local universities can be directly involved as well as an icon of livestock development in the SPR program.

"Lunching the secretariat becomes a media or place to be able to communicate or interact directly with farmers. For example those who have livestock problems can consult and find answers directly from experts, "he added.

Head of LPPM IPB, Dr. Aji Hermawan said that he was very proud of the SPR. The existence of a college will be meaningful if it can provide the maximum contribution to the community. This is a task carried out by LPPM IPB to disseminate innovation and research results of IPB researchers and lecturers to get to the community and provide the maximum benefit or impact to the community.

"If one program is observed to have a major impact on the community, it is SPR LPPM IPB. The SPR program is a pattern of how to try to ground technology in universities for the benefit of the community, so that it can build independent livestock in the region. So SPR can provide great access for farmers in Indonesia such as access to information, science and technology, and strengthening control of production and post-livestock production, "he said.

He added, through the program it is expected that the development of the SPR in Indonesia will be faster with the concept of cooperation sharing the roles and responsibilities between local governments, universities, private sector and farmers in the region. The future SPR will not only have an impact at the national level but will spread to the international level.

Meanwhile, Deputy Dean of Academic and Student Affairs of the Faculty of Animal Husbandry (Fapet) of IPB, Prof. Dr. Ir. Sumiati, M. Sc strongly supports the SPR of LPPM IPB, because the SPR is very helpful for small farmers in the regions to advance and provide welfare. Prof. Sumiati hopes that the SPR of LPPM IPB will continue to progress and develop better and continue to share the goodness for farmers in Indonesia. (AVR)
