IPB Graduation: We are Faced with Smart Society 4.0 Condition
Bogor Agricultural University (IPB) again held Graduation and Certificate Submission Phase I for Academic Year 2018/2019 for its graduates in Graha Widya Wisuda (GWW) Building, IPB Dramaga Campus, Bogor (19/9). During this graduation phase, IPB delivered a certificate to 800 graduates consisting of 652 graduates with a bachelor degree, 46 graduates of the Veterinary Program, 82 graduates with a master degree in science, 12 graduates with a master degree in management, and 8 graduates with a doctorate degree.
IPB Rector, Dr. Arif Satria, in his speech said that the challenges of national development now and in the future are felt to be increasingly severe. One of the problems that still needs to get priority in national development is the strengthening of competitiveness through increasing human resource competencies. Competitive human resources will be able to turn every challenge into an opportunity. This is one of the soft skills that must be built for university graduates in Indonesia in addition to reasoning and creativity.
"Moreover, another challenge that we should pay attention to is the condition that most college graduates tend to be job seekers rather than job creators or entrepreneurs. The available employment growth is not comparable to the number of higher education graduates each year. We must address this matter adaptively, especially the graduates who will work," said the Rector.
The Rector added, currently we are faced with Smart Society 4.0 conditions where there are eleven changes in 4.0 life. First, changes in technology4.0 have colored our lives such as the internet of things, big data, robotic, artificial intelligence and 3D printing. 3D printing technology will fill the fields of education, health, construction and industrial needs.
Second, product-based is changed massively to be platform-based. Product-based products have a time limit with very important assets. Third, ownership meaning is changed to be a sharing concept where collaboration becomes an important thing.
Then the fourth is a change in work and profession. The 20th century jobs will be slowly replaced by new technology 4.0-based jobs. Fifth is changes in behavior and lifestyle. The phenomenon that happens now is like phubbing, where everyone always sees cellphones whenever and wherever they are. The sixth is map changes in the competition. People used to see Nokia competing with Siemens but now it competes with Samsung, Apple and others. The seventh is changes in regulations and perspectives in the grouping of industries and new jobs.
"Eighth is a change in the source of new sovereignty, namely data. Now data becomes important in which who controls big data will dominate the world. The ninth is changes in maintaining trust and reputation to be the foundation of life. Maintaining trust and reputation becomes a demand because every transaction requires a rating from the client. The tenth is changes in new skills, ranging from complex problem solving, critical thinking, creativity, people management, coordinating with others, emotional intelligence, system skills, service orientation, negotiation, and cognitive abilities. These are all skills that we must master and will be an inspiration to IPB on how to formulate a curriculum which can equip the graduates with these skills. And the eleventh is a change in spatial orientation. At present there are not many who look at the village, but in the future, the village will become a foundation with the development of economy and technology," said the Rector.
The Rector emphasized that those are what make IPB formulates the vision of 2045 to become the leading techno-socio entrepreneurial university in strengthening the dignity of the nation through superior higher education at the global level in the fields of tropical agriculture, marine, and biosciences. Therefore, this is something that is very important for us to be realized so that graduates can become technopreneur and/or sociopreneurs who can solve the problems of this nation.
In the future, IPB plays contemporary roles that always adhere to the vision and mission, with strategic and concrete steps contained in IPB 4.0Strategic Initiatives consisting of IPB Care, IPB Green, IPB Biz, IPB Smart, IPB Lead, IPB Excel and IPB Share.
"Currently IPB has made a number of proud achievements. Alhamdulillah, in 2018 the QS international rating agency announced that IPB is one of the 100 best universities in the world by QS World University Ranking by Agriculture and Forestry Subject. At another international level, the students of IPB class 55 have gained a world record for The Most 3D People Formation. Then followed by the MURI record on 3D MOB PAPER Configuration with the Creation of 73 Formation in MPKMB 55 of Vocational Schools," said the Rector.
At the national level, IPB became the third Rank of State University Clustering (PTN) held by the Ministry of Research, Technology and Higher Education (Kemenristekdikti). During these two years (2017 and 2018) IPB also received the First National Rank of Widyapadhi Award in recognition of IPB's efforts to develop innovation and commercialization of innovation. IPB was also awarded as the Best Foreign Research Partner for PTN Category in 2018.
Likewise with the Human Resources (HR) owned, IPB also received an award as the First National Rank of Higher Education for HR Criteria in 2017, the First National Rank in the Field of Innovation in 2018 and the Second National Rank for Student Criteria. In addition, IPB was awarded as the First Rank of PTN-BH with the Best Report Card in Implementation of Program, Activities and Budget of 2017, the Third Rank of PTN and Kopertis Public Relations Award 2017 for Publicity Category from the Ministry of Research, Technology and Higher Education of RI, and the Third Rank for the Openness of Public Information.
"Finally, I congratulate all the graduates today for joining the IPB Alumni Association. I hope that the IPB alumni will be stronger and more compact with the spirit of "One Heart, One IPB" in order to build and develop IPB and Indonesia concretely in the broad field of agriculture.
