Talking about Hairy Worms in the Evening Dialogue of RRI

News

Bogor Communities do not have to worry about the recent massive emergence of hairy worms in some areas. So said Dr. Ir. Dadang, MSI, Head of the Department of Plant Protection, Faculty of Agriculture, IPB in the evening dialog at RRI Bogor, (12 / 4).

Dr. Dadang says, hairy worms would not breed suddenly in large quantity. This happens because of an imbalanced ecosystem, or the absence of natural predators against the worms. “The natural predators could be birds, bacteria or viruses," he said.

According to him, the worms could spread so widely through through the means of transportation, i.e. the worms or butterflies that land on the vehicle.

In addition, Dr. Dadang emphasized that the public, especially farmers must often check the growth of their crops because almost all caterpillars like to eat plants. Through observation, the growth of caterpillars in large quantities can be immediately controlled.

Many ways can be done to solve the problem of caterpillars and insecticides should not be directly used if there are not too many worms – sweeping away or burying would be enough.

At the end of the dialogue. Dr. Dadang said that he is ready to help the people especially the farmers with the solutions related to the problems of pests and plant diseases at the Plant Clinic of Bogor Agricultural University, phone number: 0251-8629350. (Mtd)
