Early stages of maturation period is characterized by IPB lecturers who returned from studying overseas duty, term of office to two Prof.Dr.Ir.AM Satari as Rector of IPB, and reforestation deforested land that is now the Mount Forest Education Walat, Sukabumi.

Entering the turn of the leadership of the Rector of IPB from Prof.Dr.Ir.AM Satari to Prof.Dr.Ir.H. Andi Hakim Nasoetion. In 1978, IPB developed the first stage of cooperation (1979-1983) with the University of Wisconcin upgrades in the field of teaching, particularly in the field of environmental sciences and nutritional sciences, was born in 1981 so that the Polytechnic Faculty of Agriculture

In line with the expansion of learning opportunities at higher education level and facing a population explosion of youth aged 18 years and over, IPB adjust-year master plan development plan 1971-1979 with the academic and campus physical development plan based on the projected Darmaga problems to be faced in 2000, as : (1) the problem of providing nutritional food and farming community, (2) the problem of managing human life support systems in the environment, (3) problems of energy supply from various sources and conventional energy, and (4) issue collection management and dissemination of information within large populations with the goal of improving national security. Understanding of these problems, IPB have been forged to strengthen its competence in the field of agriculture in the broadest sense and become the leading agricultural institutions of higher education in Indonesia.

In the period IPB Rector Prof.Dr.Ir. Sitanala Arsyad during the second service period 1987-1991 and 1992-1996, IPB has built a campus master plan Darmaga by 1982. Physical development has also been matched by the development of educational programs S0, S1, S2 and S3, instructional methods and student guidance, development research center and development center as well as the confidence of domestic and foreign. This is partly visible with the construction of three Inter-University (PAU) in the field of Biological Sciences, Biotechnology, Food and Nutrition.

Until the year 1992 in the campus buildings have been built Darmaga Faculty of Agricultural Technology, Building Research Center for Environment (PPLH), Institute for Information Resources, and Production of Seed Analysis Laboratory, Department of Community Nutrition and Family Resources (GMSK) Faperta IPB, and inter-University Center Building consisting of PAU PAU Biological, PAU PAU Biotechnology and Food and Nutrition. Until the year 1996 has been built IPB Rectorate building and the building of Faculty of Animal Husbandry and Fisheries and Marine Sciences Faculty. Until the year 2000 has built the Faculty of Agriculture, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and Animal Hospital Education.

In the period IPB Rector Prof.Dr.Ir.H. Soleh Solahuddin, M. Sc, which was in 1996-1998, IPB has had 144 Study Program (PS), which consists of 30 PS for the Diploma Programme, 39 PS for Undergraduate Programs, 51 PS to 25 PS Masters and Doctoral programs are spread across 8 Faculty and Graduate Program. The existence of this course is also supported by the 25 study centers and development centers, so as to create research culture in academic circles IPB. Continuing implementation of the master plan development of IPB, which ends in 2000, drafted a strategic plan to be Universities IPB Year 2020. Recognizing the role of higher education is inseparable from the context of the national Development, the IPB invite all nations to make the agricultural component as a common platform of national development. This is evident when Indonesia faced economic recession and monetary policies in 1997, agro-industry and agribusiness sector into a pillar of national economic savior.
 

During the leadership of the Rector of IPB Prof.Dr.Ir. Aman Wirakartakusumah in 1998-2002, IPB proactively involved in education reform as an integral part of a rolling national reform movement since 1997. Through Government Regulation 154 of 2000, IPB became one of four national universities based on State-Owned Legal Entity. Preparation of the University Strategic Plan 2020 IPB then accommodated in the implementation of autonomy IPB with institutional transition period for 5 years (until 2005) and the transition of personnel for 10 years (2010), to be able to produce graduates with a culture of quality that are ready to face globalization. On the way, standing a few units, such as the Department of Computer Science, and Technology Transfer Office Haki, International Program, Faculty of Economics and Management (2001), as well as student dormitories TPB with an emphasis on academic development and multi-culture. At this time formed the Board of Trustees (BoT) as the supreme body that determines the development direction of the Rector of IPB including selecting the period 2002-2007.
