CARE IPB University Held an International Biotechnology Regulation Workshop

The Center for Alternative Dispute Resolution (CARE) of IPB University held an International Workshop on ‘Overview of National and International Biosafety Regulations’. Took place at IPB International Convention Center (IICC) Bogor, this activity was a collaboration between CARE IPB University and the Biosafety Commission for Genetically Engineered Products (KKH PRG) and supported by Bayer.
Prof M Parulian Hutagaol, chairman of the workshop committee as well as Head of the Public, Regulatory and Institutional Division of CARE IPB University stated, “Food engineering technology can provide great benefits, especially for the development of agricultural products. However, this requires caution and precision so as not to create anything that can disturb, harm, and endanger biodiversity, the environment, and human health.”
The Chairman of PRG KKH, Prof Bambang Prasetya on this occasion conveyed the Global Risk Report for 2023 mentions risks related to the food system, where the threat of natural disasters due to climate change will cause a crisis of natural resources. This condition is compounded by the need for a world food supply amid pressures for land minimization, water minimization, and fertilizer minimization.
“The use of the right technology and policies is very necessary. Therefore, this forum is important for the PRG KKH as a medium for exchanging information regarding regulations and issues of biotechnology development in various countries,” said the speaker from the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN).
The workshop which was attended by dozens of participants involved members of the PRG KKH, the PRG Biosafety Technical Team (TTKH) in the Food Sector, the PRG TTKH in the Feed Sector and the TTKH PRG in the Environment Sector.
