Several IPB University Innovation Real-Thematic Work Lecture (KKN-T) students introduced a clean and healthy lifestyle (PHBS) in the school environment. This activity is packaged in the ‘Karekan Mengajar’ program. This action is a form of student concern for stunting prevention in Karek Village, Banjarnegara, Central Java.

“The Karek Teaching Program is held at the 1st State Elementary School of Karek. The activity took place four times with the distribution of material and practice in class. Coinciding with National Children’s Day, we are also holding an awarding event for the best and most active participants who will be crowned as Children Ambassadors of SDN 1 Karek,” explained Melia Fatika, chief executive of the Karek Teaching program for IPB University Innovation KKN-T students.

Melia explained the material presented in the program included waste sorting and steps to wash hands properly and correctly. Not only that, material related to healthy and halal snacks was also delivered. Through the distribution of various materials, it is hoped that the students of SDN 1 Karek will be able to gain comprehensive knowledge and practice through the PHBS theme.

The learning methods used also vary according to the grade level and students’ understanding. In grades 2 and 3, the dominant learning method is learning while playing and singing, to make it easier for students to remember material and not get bored easily. For grades 4, 5, and 6, this is done by explaining the material and then continuing with an understanding test through media games or fun quizzes.

“This variety of learning methods will help students at SDN 1 Karek understand and remember the material better, as well as increase their participation in learning activities,” said Melia as

“On this occasion, we thank IPB University’s Innovation Real-Thematic Work Lecture students who have helped fellow teachers with students at SDN 1 Karek. We hope that the presence of all students can help prevent stunting from an early age, especially in SDN 1 Karek,” said Panggih, one of the teachers at SDN 1 Karek.

With this teaching partner program, Melia and the IPB University Innovation KKN-T team hope that efforts to prevent stunting and promote PHBS at SDN 1 KaREkan can have a positive impact on the lives of the children and the people of Karek Village. “We believe that through education, cooperation, and mutual awareness, we can create a healthy, strong, and quality generation for a better future,” he concluded.
