The leadership of IPB University received an audience from the Student Executive Board – Student Family (BEM KM). The hearing was conducted in response to the increase in the number of single tuition fees (UKT) for final-year students.

The request for a student hearing was accepted by the rectorate and attended by the Vice Rector of IPB University in the field of Resource Resilience and Infrastructure, representatives of the Directorate of Finance, Directorate of Education Administration, Directorate of Student Affairs and Directorate of General and Infrastructure.

Student President (Presma) of IPB University, Imaduddin Abdurrahman said, in response to the policy, BEM KM immediately clarified to the leadership of IPB University. The reason is, many students ask and ask for clarity on the policy.

Previously, the Vice Rector of IPB University for Education and Student Affairs issued a notification regarding UKT payments for final students. In the letter, there is a change in the amount of tuition fee (UKT) payment from the original 35 percent to 50 percent. This amount applies to 9th-semester students of undergraduate programs and 5th-semester students of postgraduate programs. The change refers to Rector Regulation Number 9 of 2023 signed by the rector.

Responding to student unrest, IPB University’s Vice-Rector for Resource Resilience and Infrastructure, Dr Alim Setiawan, said that the UKT adjustment was related to the revocation of COVID-19 status. This causes the need for readjustment of policies related to UKT.

“In addition, the student’s on-time graduation rate began to decline since the 35 percent UKT policy was implemented. With the adjustment of UKT to 50 percent again, it is expected to trigger students to graduate on time,” replied Dr Alim.

In addition, the Minister of Student Welfare of BEM KM IPB, Nikki Fauzi Nugroho also asked about the assistance scheme that would be provided by the campus to overcome the problems of students who were constrained in paying UKT in semester 9.

“Many students are constrained in paying UKT. These students must be assisted on a case-by-case basis. In addition, there are still other administrative problems that need joint commitment to overcome this,” he said.

Dr Indah Yuliasih, Director of Finance of IPB University stated, “We will give strict instructions to the study program and lecturers to facilitate administration and other problems.”

“IPB University is committed to ensuring the handling of student problems that are constrained by UKT payments. Please report to the Directorate of Finance and we will find a solution,” he added. (*/Rz) (IAAS/TNY)
