One of the problems faced by KTH Satria Mandiri coffee farmers is low productivity. Coffee that has been planted and is aged produces productivity that tends to decrease. For this reason, a number of IPB University students from the Student Organization Capacity Strengthening Program (PPK Ormawa) team, Forest Management Students’ Club (FMSC) donated 2,000 Arabica coffee seeds of the Kosti variety to the Satria Mandiri Forest Farmers Group (KTH), Pasir Sarongge, Cianjur Regency, West Java (24/7).

“Sarongge coffee productivity needs to be continuously improved, considering that Pasir Sarongge is very famous for its coffee. In 2019, the quality of Sarongge coffee beans won international awards, so it would be a shame if Sarongge coffee productivity was not increased,” said Syahrul as the head of the PPK Ormawa FMSC IPB University team.

He said that the provision of assistance in the form of 2,000 coffee seeds was expected to be able to overcome the problems that existed at KTH Satria Mandiri. Furthermore, said Syahrul, this activity is expected to create contributions between the two parties, so that the program can be implemented properly.

“Hopefully the seeds provided can become quality seeds so that they can increase the coffee productivity of the farmers at KTH Satria Mandiri Pasir Sarongge,” he hoped.

In addition, the PPK Ormawa FMSC IPB University team also made a nursery to support the success of the nursery in the coffee plantation. The nursery was carried out before the 2,000 coffee seeds were given to KTH Satria Mandiri.

Dudu as the adviser to KTH Satria Mandiri welcomed the program that would be implemented by the PPK Ormawa FMSC IPB University team. “Thank you for giving 2,000 coffee seeds for KTH Satria Mandiri. Hopefully, the provision of seeds from IPB University students can overcome the obstacles that exist for coffee farmers here,” he added. (*/Rz) (IAAS/AMR)
