IPB University Management and Business Doctoral Program Students Visit United Nations University, Tokyo

IPB University students from the Management and Business Doctoral Program (DMB) Batch 18 IPB University Business School (SB) had the privilege of visiting the United Nations University (UNU) in Tokyo. The visit was welcomed by Dr Kensuke Fukushi, Academic Program Advisor at the UNU Institute for the Advanced Study of Sustainability (UNU-IAS).
“UNU has a mission to continue to contribute to overcoming global challenges related to sustainability, development and human welfare through collaborative research and education,” said Dr Kensuke.
On this occasion, IPB University students discussed with UNU graduate students on the topic ‘Globalization and Cultural Diversity: How to Navigate Differences Towards Sustainable Success’. The two parties discussed the opportunities and challenges of sustainable development in the context of globalization and cultural diversity.
Students highlighted the importance of collaboration and partnership between various institutions to advance the global agenda in achieving sustainability goals. Education is an important instrument in encouraging positive changes in individual attitudes towards a sustainable lifestyle.
Furthermore, students encourage the global community to study local wisdom values in the context of sustainability. It is realized that the local wisdom of indigenous peoples in nature conservation has played an important role in protecting biodiversity and ecosystems.
For example, the Tri Hita Karana philosophy applied to the Subak irrigation system in Bali is a practice of a sustainable water management system. By integrating local wisdom into a sustainable development approach, we can achieve a more comprehensive and harmonious goal of protecting the earth for future generations.
Vice Dean of SB IPB University for Resources, Cooperation and Development, Dr Nimmi Zulbainarni explained, an international visit by DMB Program students with the theme ‘Sustainable Business Strategy: Japan’s Key to Success in Facing Challenges and Winning Global Competition’
“This activity is a manifestation of SB IPB University’s vision of producing business leaders and scientists who have an entrepreneurial spirit, focus on sustainability and are globally oriented,” he said.
Apart from UNU, DMB Program students also made visits and discussions with a number of related institutions in Japan, including Tokyo University of Agriculture (Tokyo NODAI), Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries of Japan (MAFF) , Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia (KBRI) Tokyo, Yamaha Kakegawa Factory and several other industrial and business centers in Japan.
“This experience is expected to give impetus to Indonesia’s economic development and encourage further collaboration between Indonesia and Japan, especially in the fields of business and management,” he said. (DEE/Igno/Rz) (IAAS/Res)
