Department of Fisheries Resource Utilization (PSP) IPB University Holds Public Lecture Series Perdana

The Department of Fisheries Resource Utilization (PSP), Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Science (FPIK) IPB University again held a public lecture that presented experts in the field of marine fisheries from abroad. This activity is packaged in the PSP Public Lecture Series activities initiated by the Marine Fisheries Technology Study Program.

The first PSP Public Lecture raised the theme ‘System Thinking and Application” Its Relevance to Fishing Port Management’. The guest speaker was Dr Li Haobin, Program Director of Marine and Technology and Management National University of Singapore (NUS). The public lecture, which was attended by students, lecturers and fisheries and marine practitioners, was held offline and could also be followed through streaming on the YouTube Channel of the Department of PSP FPIK IPB.

“This activity is very relevant to the institution’s efforts in implementing the Freedom of Learning-Independence Campus (MBKM) policy. This policy provides opportunities for IPB University students to gain knowledge outside the campus with various forms of learning. One of them is by presenting lecturers from outside IPB University, both at home and abroad, “said the Dean of FPIK IPB University, Prof Fredinan Yulianda.

Dr Li Haobin opened his material by conveying the development of the shipping industry in Southeast Asia. He mentioned that Indonesia is one of the countries with a shipping industry growth rate that reaches double digits. Furthermore, he conveyed the importance of building a fishery model and fishing port management model with a system dynamic approach.

Also present were the Head of the Department of PSP IPB University, Prof Eko Sri Wiyono, Dr Yopi Novita and Dr Darmawan. After the public lecture, the Department of PSP IPB University team consisting of Prof Eko Sri Wiyono, Dr Iin Solihin, Dr Ronny Irawan Wahyu, Dr Azbas Taurusman and Dr Vita Rumanti had a special meeting with the NUS team consisting of Dr Li Haobin, Gladys Koh, Ryan Goh and Benjamin Tey.

This meeting discussed the initiation of cooperation that will be carried out by both institutions in the not too distant future. The cooperation that will be initiated is related to academic and joint research which is the implementation of the cooperation agreement (MoU) that has been signed by both parties. (*/Rz) (IAAS/ARD)
