“Love Indonesia, have a global outlook and last but not least, uphold integrity. This is an important element for success. Integrity is universal, shown by being honest and not abusing authority at work,” he explained.
He added that in addition to hard skills, mastery of soft skills is also an important part. Good communication skills, convincing appearance, and building relationships are also needed.
“Successful people are those who have talent accompanied by a good attitude,” he said.
Said hopes that IPB University graduates have a growth mentality where emotional maturity is balanced with intellectual intelligence. That way, IPB University graduates have the desire to change themselves for the better, make challenges as an opportunity to develop, reflect on constructive criticism, and are not tired of learning new things (life-long learner).
“You are the future leaders of the nation and therefore are at the forefront of ensuring that Indonesia achieves the 2045 vision of being a developed country with the fifth largest economy in the world. With good economic growth and globalization, the opportunities for work are getting wider. IPB University is known for its agile graduates, an attitude that is needed now and in the future. Indonesia’s success is on your shoulders,” he said.
The event continued with the second session presentation by Nur Fajri Rahmawati. The Senior Manager Requirement and Training CDA IPB University explained the importance of career planning for students.
“There are five phases in a career, starting with the exploration phase, followed by the start, middle, top, and mature phases. We can find a profession that suits our passion by exploring,” she said.
Rahma explained that skills are the basic needs that a person needs and develops in a career. Someone with a variety of qualified skills will attract the company’s interest.
“In addition to skills, we need passion at work. If we are able to work in accordance with our passion, the output will be more optimal. When we are in a state of love with work, then we are in the sweet spot phase,” she said.
Rahma said that the candidates graduate must understand career opportunities. Currently, many job positions have disappeared and been replaced with new ones. This happens with the development of the times where job specifications also change.
“Therefore, adaptability and mastery of various skills are needed in this era and in the future. Don’t just focus on one type of profession. Look for other similar professions as an alternative,” she added.
According to Rahma, personal branding is also important and fundamental in the recruitment process, both at the preparation and selection stages. The development of technology increases one’s creativity in building personal branding, one of which is through social media.
“Currently, social media can be the “future CV” used by various companies in the recruitment process. The tips in doing personal branding are to recognize your strengths, set a target, then make sure the message conveyed in the branding is relevant to the target,” he concluded. (igno/Zul) (IAAS/RUM)
