Prof Indra Jaya, Professor of IPB University, lecturer at the Department of Marine Science and Technology (ITK), Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Science (FPIK) had the opportunity to present research on optimization of mariculture production during his visit to Wageningen University and Research (WUR), the Netherlands some time ago.

Prof Indra Jaya's visit was in order to attend the Interdisciplinary Research and Education Fund (INREF) meeting, a research and education cooperation project between IPB University and WUR.

On the occasion, Prof Indra Jaya delivered an update on the development of research entitled 'Development & Application of Underwater Televisual System and Artificial Intelligence to Support Smart Cage Mariculture'. The purpose of this multidisciplinary research development, among others, is the optimization of mariculture production performance.

Prof Indra explained the instruments built to strengthen the smart sea farming model, under the management of the Center for Coastal and Marine Resources Studies (PKSPL) IPB University.

"Of course we really need smart sea farming infrastructure to produce precise production and performance data," Prof Indra said in the presentation.

For this reason, he continued, IPB University has developed a system for collecting data / photos of live fish in floating net cages (KJA), sharpening underwater photos, identifying and quantifying live fish in KJA, estimating fish size and biomass, and observing fish behavior and health.

During the visit, Prof Indra also had the opportunity to attend the Wageningen-Indonesia Scientific Exposure (WISE), an event for Indonesian students to present their research results. Not only that, he also attended the commemoration of WUR's 105th Anniversary, which was themed Blue Transitions: Shaping Sustainable Marine Future.

"It was a pleasure to participate in this meeting. Hopefully the cooperation will be closer to produce more integrated and effective research and education in the future," said Prof Indra (RAT/Rz) (IAAS/ARD)
