Around 800 students of IPB University are graduated on Wednesday (11/12) at the Graha Widya Wisuda  (GWW), Dramaga, Bogor. The third stage of graduation in 2019/2020 academic year consist of 512 Bachelor’s students, 30 students of Veterinary Professional program, 223 Masters graduates and 35 students of Doctoral programs. Up until now, IPB University already has 161,798 alumni all across the nation and the world.

The graduation ceremony was started by the opening remarks from Prof. Dr. Arif Satria, as the rector of IPB University. In his remarks, he congratulates all the graduates and look forward for their contribution in lifting up the noble legacy for IPB University. Beside that, he also advised the graduates to keep pursuing the north stars metric of their life while reminding the sacrifice of their parents.

On this constellation, the Rector of IPB University proliferate all graduates with the exposure of skills that is needed in order to face the future challenges in the world. He said that the spirit of integrity, innovation and inspiration is the essential key to unlock the success of IPB University.

He believe that integrity is the foundation of success. It’s represents the determination and consistency of IPB University in carrying out the values of the Tri Dharma of Indonesian higher education. “The spirit of integrity is an engine for collaboration, collaboration will runs well if both parties have a good integrity” he said

Prof. Arif Satria also clearly stated the direction for disruption in the future. There are at least five directions of disruption, namely technological disruption, jobs and professions disruptions, a dynamic roadmap for competition, lifestyle and behavior changes, and new skills disruptions. The lecturer of the Faculty of Human Ecology of IPB University said that technological disruption has incentivized resource behavior control becomes a resource sharing. “The concept of sharing resources enables us to optimize the use of advanced technology without owning it. He believes that the future companies only need to have a management, human capital and information systems.

Through this technological disruption, IPB University has succeeded in creating a massive technological innovations with highly benefit impact for the society. These innovations include the Nusantara ARFI: Artificial Intelligent system to identify fish and coral species, AURORA: Autonomous Palm Oil Monitoring Robot, Ad-Toam: Halal food and beverage detector, Madsaz Baby Cry Translator: Crying Baby Translator, Smart Detection for Quality Fruits: Determine the level of fruit maturity and SWARM-SHIP: Design and build autonomous ship to attack the enemy

In contrast to technological changes, the disruption in the future jobs and professions paradoxically threaten the number of jobs that projected to be lost and shifted by the use of robot. However, The Rector of IPB University said that the disruption of jobs and professions can be anticipated with the skills of  human capital, the graduates.

“Based on research, there are three fundamental skills that is needed in the future, namely complex problem solving, critical thinking and creativity. Hence, IPB University highly committed to implements the IPB 4.0 Education Program” He said. The IPB 4.0 Education Program is designed to equip students with an essential skill sets that will strengthen their talents, so that the graduates that is designated to be an agent of change are agile, resilient and adaptive. The main purpose of the IPB 4.0 Education Program is about making the students to be a robust agile learners.

The Rector of IPB University also highlighted the changes in lifestyle and current millennial behavior. “The primary needs of today’s Millennial are no longer food, shelter or other empiric needs primary needs. But the primary needs of today’s millennial are mobile batteries and internet connections” he said.

The latest research from IDN Research Institute, shows that 79% of millennial are checking their smartphone one minute after waking up. Today, the main orientation of the millennial is no longer to be an employees or workers. Now, Millennial are obsessed with starting their business ventures or building their own start-up.

“If a couple years ago the objective of most people are willing to become a civil servants, employees, and workers. Now, the current trend shows that around 69.1% of millennial want to be the CEO “he said.

The change in behavior and lifestyle has affecting the business competition landscape. Hence, the Rector of IPB University determined that the disruption in the business competition landscape are getting dynamic and unclear, we do not know exactly the rivals of our in the future.

“Therefore, the changes of the competition landscape can solely be done with creativity and imagination to find out the future “he concluded. (IAAS/RI)
