The Research and Community Service Body (LPPM) in collaboration with Department of Aquatic Resource Management (MSP), Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences (FPIK) IPB University is back to sending teams of volunteer lecturers to various areas. In this opportunity, Dr Niken TM Pratiwi; Inna Puspa Ayu, MSi; Aliati Iswantari, MSi; and Dwi Yuni Wulandari, MSi gives lectures on aquatic microorganisms to students in SMK Pertanian Pembangunan Cianjur, (11/12). In her presentation, Dr Niken explains that aquatic microorganisms impacts fishery activities, where planktons function as oxygen suppliers and natural feed for fish. As a result students are now familiar that aquatic microorganisms’ function for advanced fishery activities. Aside from lectures on plankton, they were also introduced to infusoria, aquatic bacteria, plankton culture, observation and raising aquatic microorganisms.

Meanwhile, the headmaster of SMK Pertanian Pembangunan, Drs H Sutarja, MPd, wishes that this volunteer program for lecturers can be done continuously to contribute wisdom to students so they can apply it to further their studies in the future.

At the same time, Mahmudin and Siti Fatimah, both students of SMK Pertanian Pembangunan Cianjur felt blessed that they are able to attend this lecture. They acquired new knowledge and experiences and has opened new doors to the world of sciences.

“We”ve acquired many new experiences for IPB University lecturers because of the hands-on practice with complete set of equipments,”expresses Mahmudin. (IAAS/RCD)
