For the first time IPB University and the Agency for Agricultural Research and Development, the Indonesian Ministry of Agriculture held an international seminar related to environmental issues in the field of plantations. The 1st International Conference on Sustainable Plantation, 2019 was held at IPB International Convention Center (IICC), Bogor (20/8).

"There are a lot of negative issues that arise related to the environment of oil palm commodities. Therefore, in this international seminar we invited Prof. Dr. Meine Van Noordwijk, Chief Scientist of The World Agroforestry Center, ICRAF. He is one of the experts who contribute to the environment. We want to build networks through this conference. For this reason, we invited key resource persons in various plantation commodities. Because we want to convey objectively that oil palm plantations have a lot to contribute to the reforestation and utilization of land or open areas that are not utilized. So that scientifically can actually be accounted for, "said Dr. Ahmad Junaedi, as Chairman of the Committee.
On this occasion, Rector of IPB University, Dr. Arif Satria said about the importance of understanding the perspective of agriculture in the technology era 4.0. "Industrial Era 4.0 is expected to solve problems in many social and economic aspects of agricultural practices," he said.

Meanwhile, Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture, IPB University Dr. Suwrdi said "From this activity it is hoped that there is a solution related to plantation management. Namely an increase in production but the environment is still well maintained, "he said. (AVR)
