IPB University Exempts Underprivileged Students from BPIF

On July 13th-14th, 2019, IPB held a entrance test for the Independent Lane through the Computer-based Independent Written Test (UTM-BK) for Undergraduate Program (S1) and Vocational School (D3). The test was conducted on July 13th for the undergraduate program, and on July 14th for the vocational school. It was held in several campuses of IPB University; from Dramaga Campus, Vocational School Campus, Business School Campus. It also involved several high school in Bogor.
Vice Rector on Education and Student Affairs, IPB University, Dr. Drajat Martianto conveyed that the test’s participants kept increasing every year. This year, the number of participants who enrolled in the Undergraduate Program through independent pathways was 12,009 people, an increase of 20 percent from last year. Of the total 12 thousand participants, there were 3,268 participants taking the UTM-BK test and those using the UTBK score of 8,713. Registrants for International class are 28 people.
Meanwhile, the number of registrants for Vocational School’s UTM-BK was 2,320 people. There were 1,015 participants that went through the test for Vocational School’s UTM-BK; 791 participants in Science and Technology (Saintek) and 514 participants in Social and Humanities (Soshum). The participants generally came from Jabodetabek, but there were also some from Central Java, East Java, and other regions.
New students who passed the selection test through independent pathway will be charged with Institution and Facility Development Cost (BPIF). BPIF is paid once in the registration process as IPB University new students. BPIF is meant to give opportunity to students’ parents, as society, to contribute in increasing the quality of education. However, the verified underprivileged students will be exempted from the obligation of paying BPIF.
IPB Rector, Dr. Arif Satria, said that IPB University has always showed big commitment in giving opportunity to study for underprivileged families. It shows from the amount of recipient of Bidikmisi program. For undergraduate program, the recipient of Bidikmisi scholarship is as follows; 868 students in year 2015 (25% from the freshmen), 770 students in year 2016 (21% from the freshmen), 770 students in year 2017 (21% from the freshmen), and 825 students in year 2018 (23% from the freshmen). In 2019, scholarship will be given to 1144 students and is also added with alumni scholarship from many classes so in total, can cater 30% of the freshmen.
Therefore, IPB University Rector emphasized, “The students from the lower economic class that pass the independent test will be exempted from BPIF.” What IPB does is in line with Permenristekdikti No. 39 Year 2017 to consider the economic power of society in deciding BPIF.”
