Let’s Drink Coffee at the IPB University Kopicentrum

IPB University re-inaugurated a coffee café for students at the Dramaga Bogor IPB University Campus, Sunday (7/4). The coffee cafe is named Kopicentrum Botani. Previously, IPB University had inaugurated the Botani Nusantara Coffee which took place at the Student Service Center (SSC) building, the Dramaga Campus of IPB University, Bogor.
Rector of IPB, Dr. Arif Satria said that with the opening of Kopicentrum Botani, IPB University students could not only consume coffee but also get education about coffee. He hopes Kopicentrum can become the center of coffee education starting from the introduction of coffee, coffee history, and proper coffee processing procedures.
“People who consume coffee are not just enjoying the taste of coffee or the coffee solution. But we also feel that coffee is a product of farmers, it’s ethnic diversity, so there are shadows like that when consuming, “added Dr. Arif Satria.
According to him, people currently consume coffee not only functional reasons but also psychosocial issues. What is meant by consuming coffee for functional reasons is that people drink coffee because they are thirsty and after drinking become full. Whereas psychosocially, coffee consumers will identify with farmers and the distinctive identity of the coffee itself.
Regarding the current increase in coffee trends, IPB University is committed to opening a coffee specialization program intended for IPB University vocational students. With the opening of the coffee specialization program, it is expected to be able to improve the quality in the field of coffee, especially barista and coffee products themselves.
“Because coffee is a trend, it needs to be addressed specifically. Because coffee is not just consumed, but needs to be learned from upstream to downstream, “said Dr. Arif Satria.
Meanwhile, Dr. Jaenal Effendi, S.Ag, M.A, Director of IPB Business and Entrepreneurship Development said that Kopicentrum was realized due to the efforts of various parties, especially IPB University alumni who had given investment to IPB. Kopicentrum not only provides coffee service, but also provides space for work and discussion for students.
In addition, according to the Vice Rector for Innovation, Business and Entrepreneurship, Prof. Dr. Erika Budiarti Laconi, MS said that the construction of Kopicentrum was intended to make students feel at home to study on campus.
“The Kopicentrum is not only for discussion, but also for education for students. Later facilities will be built so that students can deliver tableware such as plates and spoons to the places provided so that the table is clean and not messy, “added Prof. Erika. (NR)
