Farewell Party SUIJI SLP: The collaboration between IPB and Kagawa University, Ehime University and Kochi University is getting stronger

The 2019 Six University Initiative Japan Indonesia-Service Learning Program (SUIJI SLP) program that held by the Institute of Research and Community Service (LPPM) of the IPB University was completed. The farewell was held in the Common Class Room (CCR), Dramaga Campus of IPB, Bogor (10/3).

Students from Indonesia (IPB) and Japan (Kagawa University, Ehime University and Kochi University) who participated in this program have been doing service for 10 days in four villages / villages namely Neglasari Village, Sukawening Village, Bubulak Village and Setugede Village. They help the community to handle waste problems, teach kindergarten children and cultural exchanges.

Rector of IPB, Dr. Arif Satria said that the collaboration with partners in Japan was tight and strong. This must be maintained and expanded well. This SLP SUIJI program is a very good example to other activities.

“For IPB students, community service is important. Students must build empathy, know problems in the community and how to contribute to work together in solving problems in the community. Because students act as role models in the community. For that students must be good at placing themselves, adapting and living side by side in the community, “said Arif Satria.

Arif Satria added that students as agents of change are the spearhead of the nation’s future development and play a role in defending the interests of society. Students as educated people also have a responsibility to participate in advancing community life, which can open people’s eyes as a form of service to the people.

Meanwhile, according to the Head of Sub Directorate of Services for the International Program of IPB, Dr. Sintho Wahyuning Ardie, this 2019 SLP SUIJI had a positive impact in the form of the increasing number of Japanese students who came again at IPB from different cooperation programs. This is because the friendship at SUIJI is very close, not only in the SUIJI SLP activities but how they are looking for ways to be able to meet with friends at IPB.

“Therefore tonight the farewell night is actually not to separate but” please come back again “and IPB children can also visit Kagawa University, Ehime University and Kochi University in Japan,” said Dr. Sintho.

Hopefully in the future, SUIJI SLP activities can continue and be improved to another form of activities. For example, holding national seminar activities or workshops so that they involve more IPB students. (jhn)
