In the midst of the rapid development of technology, people participate in giving comments and sharing information in a fast and unlimited time. The existence of the Information and Electronic Transactions Constitution (ITE) makes internet users need to be careful in giving comments. This was conveyed by the Deputy Dean of Academic and Student Affairs of the Bogor Agricultural University (IPB) Vocational School, Dr. Ir. Wawan Oktariza, M.Sc at the “Social Media 2018” Seminar held by the Communication Study Program of the Vocational School of IPB on Sunday (09/12) at Dramaga Campus of IPB.

“The use of social media is now very intense since there was a touchscreen phone. How to respond to social media is very important, because social media can be used positively and negatively. We hope that in the future, the younger generation can use it for the good, not just using social media,” said Dr.Wawan.

Furthermore, Dr. Wawan said that currently the enthusiasm of the community in using social media is very large. “A study conducted by the Association of Indonesian Internet Service Providers that currently Indonesians spend an average of 3 hours 23 minutes a day just to access social media.”

Aditya Nugroho, TVOne presenter was present as a moderator. The speakers in this discussion were Kompol Khaerudin, (Head of the Metro Jaya Cyber Crime Ditkrimsus Polda Investigation Unit), Dr. Hedi M. Idris, M.SC (Head of Center for Professional Development and Certification), Reza Indragiri Amril, Mcrim (psychologist) Tasya Kamila (artist), and Dea Gusti Rizkita (Princess Indonesia Peace 2017).

On that occasion, Commissioner Khaerudin invited the younger generation not to do hate speech. News hoaxes can have various impacts and have been regulated in the ITE Law. Tasya Kamila and Dea Gusti Rizkita shared their experiences of bitter moments when using social media as public figures, such as body shaming and bullying. Giving comments and posting on social media can be recorded as a digital track record. The society is expected to become a public figure on social media and inspire others. (FM)
