Students of Bogor Agricultural University (IPB) succeeded in sweeping medals at the UI Annual Athletic Championship (UIAAC) 2018, Saturday (8/12). The championship is an athletic competition in Java Island held by the University of Indonesia. This year the UIAAC was attended by eight universities including; IPB, ITB, UNJ, UIN JAKARTA, POLTEKIP, POLITEKNIK MIGRASI, and STEI TAZKIA. The athletic numbers that were contested at the event were the Men’s and Women’s Running numbers 100 meters, 200 meters, 400 meters, 800 meters, 1,500 meters, 5,000 meters, 4×100 meters and 4×400 meters. In addition to running, there are also bullet numbers and long jumps. The IPB team sent a contingent of 21 athletes for this event. Students who take part in the UIAAC are athletes who win the IPB Student Olympiad (OMI) athletics in 2018.

In the UIAAC 2018 championship, the IPB Team managed to bring home two gold medals, nine silver medals, and two bronze medals. The gold medal was donated from the men’s long jump number by Aulia Rahman (Vocational School ‘54) and men’s 400m run by Valentinus Makiuw (Vocational School ‘54). Prizes given in this championship are cash, medals, and certificates.

According to Valentinus Makiuw, the preparation and training of the IPB contingent were coordinated by the Ministry of Appreciation and Sport of the Student Family Student Executive Board (BEM KM) of IPB. The contingents are eager to provide the best in this event. Like Valentinus, from the beginning, he was sure he would win a gold medal in this event because he had formed mentally and always practiced independently without depending on the coach.

“I hope to be able to take part in similar championships in the future and be able to achieve more achievements. I also hope that IPB’s athletics will be better in the future. Managerial and information aspects must be managed better so that the IPB team can achieve more achievements in various championships,” Valentinus added.

In line with this, Aulia Rahman also expressed her hope for the formation of Athletics SMEs in IPB. “I hope to contribute more achievements to IPB in the future. For this reason, facilities are needed to support our achievements, such as the existence of a Student Activity Unit (UKM) and infrastructure, explained Aulia Rahman.

Aulia and the team hope for appreciation to students who excel in the field of sports. Appreciation according to him can be in the form of giving certificates, supporting facilities and so on. (RYS)
