The Communication Bureau of Bogor Agricultural University (IPB) honed its students' journalistic skills by holding Journalistic and Digital Marketing Training at the Postgraduate School, Dramaga Campus, Bogor (10/11). Dozens of students who are members of the IPB Young Journalists community from various study programs received knowledge of journalism from Managing Editor of Kumparan.com, Ikhwanul Khabibi, and knowledge of digital marketing and Search Engine Optimation (SEO) from Teaching Staff of the Department of Computer Science, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) of IPB, Firman Ardiansyah, S.Kom, M.Sc.

According to Khabibi, writing news must be based on end user oriented. We have to see the reader segmentation and what post they like. We should write by telling stories because story has its own news value.

"Nowadays most people are looking for news from social media (medsos). It is is preferred by readers because it provides many choices and runs both ways. Everyone wants to read stories and tell the stories. Medsos can accommodate it. Therefore, people now like to consume news in social media," he said.

According to Khabibi, writing must also be able to touch and involve the emotions of its readers. The habit of today's netters is to look for news that involves emotional elements. Netters also like solutive writings.

"Actually, IPB has a lot of research that can be written. Packaging must be really played. In making the contents of the story, we must know what the readers like now. When the online media editor receives a release from an institution, the first justification seen is the email subject, besides the title and value of the information. Therefore, we should take important points as angles," he advised.

The purpose of writing is to be read or to deliver the information. The writing can be in the form of listicle, explanatory, confirmation and reportage," he added.

He further said, "Releases from universities received by the editors of online media are often caught up in ceremonial news. The way to work around this is with important angles or displaying statistical data. Strong data will present facts, enrich writings, strengthen writing and facilitate understanding. What is important is the suitability of the photo with the news or release sent."

Meanwhile, Head of the IPB Communication Bureau, Ir. Yatri Indah Kusumastuti, M.Sc in her speech said that this activity would provide input, new insights, new experiences on matters related to public relations.

"IPB will continue to inform tridarma activities to the community. Students can also become public relations and will become the spearhead of IPB in conveying information to the public. We really hope that students are able to write interestingly so that the news reaches the readers. This will become an added value for IPB students. This will also increase the students' love towards the alma mater," she said.
