P2SDM LPPM IPB Develops Education of Herbal Medicinal Plants

Center for Human Resource Development (P2SDM) Institute of Research and Community Service (LPPM) Bogor Agricultural University (IPB) through the Family Empowerment Post (Posdaya) held Herbal Education at Cempaka Posdaya RW 10 Cilendek Timur Village, Bogor, (4/9).

Coordinator of the Posdaya Service Team, P2SDM IPB, Ir. Yannefri Bakhtiar, MSi said that he was ready to make Herbal Gardens in Posdaya Cempaka as an Herbal Education Center. The form can be in the form of Herbal Tourism Village. He explained that the IPB team considered the potential of Posdaya Cempaka to be an herbal education tour that was very possible and from the location was also easy to reach. School children and family tourism are very potential in this Posdaya.

"Consistent service through Posdaya which prioritizes four areas of benefit for the community (education, health, economy, and environment) has brought many benefits that have been felt together.

In 2018, LPPM IPB fielded 15 lecturers including professors to assist Posdaya as partners of IPB, "he said.

He added that the development of Herbal Tourism in Posdaya Cempaka will bring many benefits to the community with the spread of knowledge about local herbal wisdom. For Posdaya, this activity will increase economic opportunities with various services that can be created, including processed products from herbs. For IPB this will add to the experience, dedication, and dissemination of innovation to the community while for the Regional Government (Pemda) this will add a tourism icon in the City of Bogor.

The hope is, more and more community empowerment programs can be done with synergies among stakeholders such as IPB, communities, local governments, and entrepreneurs.

Prof. Dr. Ir. Ervizal A.M. Zuhud, Professor of the Department of Forest Resources Conservation and Ecotourism, Faculty of Forestry, IPB, gave motivation and enthusiasm to the cadres to want to plant herbs. "Posdaya Cempaka cadres can plant types of herbal plants that can be used to treat their citizens quickly and effectively as betel leaves for eye health, binahong for external injuries and internal injuries, even cancer can be handled with soursop leaves as much as 20 pieces per day, "Said this IPB herbalist.

While the Head of Posdaya Cempaka, Euis explained that the flagship program in Posdaya is the development of herbal gardens. Posdaya has a 300 square meter herbal garden with various types of medicinal plants. He hopes that the IPB dedication team can assist and train cadres in improving knowledge and skills in how to mix the types of medicinal plants available.
