SUPERME, Juice Made by IPB Student to Increase Bustard Growth and Stamina

To increase livestock’s growth and stamina, generally breeder using antibiotic. Since 2018, antibiotic using being limited because it impacts negatively. Since, a group of students Nutrition Science and Feed Technology, Faculty of Animal Science Institut Pertanian Bogor (IPB), invents alternative supplement drink for bustard to maintain his growth and stamina.
They are Hasna Ariqoh, Budi Setiadi Hermanto and Soni Prayogo under the guidance of lecturer Dr. Ir. Widya Hermana, M.Si. The team calls the drink SUPERME (metabolism reaction supplementation). SUPERME is supplements of commercial antibiotics. In general, antibiotic function as increasing body stamina for preventing bustard from illness because little fowl such as bustard susceptible to disease. Antibiotic in general contains banned growth promoter. “Because of that, we try to find alternative from nature which is easy to find to make juice drink and blend into feeding drink,” Hasna says.
This supplementation juice drink is made from natural ingredients and is processed simply. This team made it from raw materials of carrots and gotu kola. Carrots contain high levels of antioxidants, beta-carotene and vitamins, while the leaves of gotu kola contain flavonoids that can make the body endurance of the quail is maintained.
"This technology is made simple in the form of juice, so that the breeders easy in the application. The juice formulation is pegagan leaf twice the amount of carrot. The amount of water is twice the amount of gotu kola and carrots. Once blended and then filtered, the water is taken and given to quail by first melted or diluted with water. Juice is given with frequency twice a week, "said Soni.
He added that the principle of the benefits of this juice is sustainable in improving quail digestion. "When there is no pathogen the digestion will be good, so the feed consumption and growth will be good. We prefer juice so that the nutritional content is more optimally used, "he said.
Now this team of researchers is testing this juice on the adult male quail to find the best dose that can be applied later. So far, the juice has a positive impact, seen the growth of higher weight and feed consumption is also high. "We try to apply this juice to the broiler quail because now the farmers have started to move to the quail and if you see the statistical trend demand for brown quail every year is increasing," he said.
With this research they successfully entered into the Student Creativity Program Research (PKM PE) held by the Ministry of Research, Technology and Higher Education Republic of Indonesia (Kemenristekdikti) RI. The title they lifted is "SUPERME: Supplementation of Leaf Kidney and Carrot Leaf Metabolism Reactions as a Productivity Enhancer of Quail (Cortunic Cortunix Japonica)". (NR)
