Directorate of Career Development and Alumni Relations (DPKHA), Bogor Agricultural University (IPB) held the Studium Generale of Pre Graduation in the Auditorium of Andi Hakim Nasoetion, Campus of IPB Dramaga, Bogor (19/2). This event aimed to give an idea to the prospective graduates who would soon enter the world of career.

The Director of DPKHA IPB, Dr. Syarifah Iis Aisyah, conveyed, that the labor condition of Indonesia had not given hope for a decline in the unemployment. Job opportunities were much smaller when compared with the number of university graduates. As a result, the level of competition to get a job was also higher. “The graduation is not the end of everything, but it is the beginning of the challenge to face the working world,” she said.

According to her, in the era of the enactment of ASEAN Economic Community (MEA), Indonesian workers should be ready to face the competition. “In the competition to get the desired job, surely we are required to have various abilities. Usually we always focus on various abilities that are technical, but there is the ability that we often forget that is also spelled out very important, that is a softskill.  No more offers, the only way to deal with it is to prepare the English well. That’s the main capital in facing the challenges of the working world,” she said.

While, Vice Rector for Innovation, Business and Entrepreneurship of IPB, Prof.Dr. Erika Budiarti Laconi, said, the graduates of IPB should be able to adapt quickly to the world of work and needed to prepare for a sufficient softskill. “Who does not have enough capability, must be ready to be left out in the world of work,” said Prof. Erika.

Prof. Erika added, IPB had DPKHA that could facilitate and bridge the graduates of IPB with the world of work. A number of the activities of DPKHA of IPB that had been and continued to be implemented to help the graduates, including the info of job vacancy, the in campus recruitment, the job fair, as well as the career training and the soft skill. The graduates of IPB, she explained, had the advantages in the competition in the world of work, one of which had a high analytical skill.

“I am very proud with the graduates of IPB, because they have the power in analysis. Therefore, stay intact with your analysis, keep providing the best information for the development of the whole agricultural world,“ she said.

Prof. Erika explained, the entrepreneurship was a concern for the graduates, opening the job was one proof of readiness in the face of an increasingly high working world. The entrepreneurship was seen as an activity that had the potential to create and promote the employment growth. The entrepreneur sector became very important, because of the limitations of the government to provide the employment to the community.

The limited government budget opened up new jobs, while on the other hand the labor force continued to grow in line with the population growth. The growth of the workforce put the pressure on the availability of the employment in an area. If the region was not able to provide the employment, there would be a high unemployment rate. If the entrepreneurial sector developed, the unemployment rate could be reduced.

“In many countries, the role of the entrepreneur sector creates the jobs that have gained the recognition. Many countries realize that the number of fast-growing companies is the key to the job creation. Therefore, the entrepreneur sector needs to be given attention and protection,” said Prof. Erika.

In the Studium Generale of Pre Graduation this time presented two resource persons, namely the President General Manager of Total E & P Indonesia, Arividya Noviyanto; and the Founder of Agrowisata Kebun Jeruk Eptilu, Rizal Fahreza.(Awl)
