Prof. Dr. med. vet. Drh. Hj. Mirnawati B Sudarwanto is expert scientific control in the domain of milk hygiene, who has been serving for Bogor Agricultural University  (IPB) for 44 years. She has been instrumental for the development of Indonesian veterinary medicine, especially for milk hygiene. On 20 December 2017, she has officially terminated her term as the faculty member of Bogor Agricultural University  by delivering her retirement oration at IPB International Convention Center (IICC), Bogor.

The Dean of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine of Bogor Agricultural University  (FKH IPB), Prof. Dr. drh. Srihadi Agung Priyono, described her distinguished scientific career, further expressed that IPB will greatly need more people like Prof. Mirnawati who developed milk hygiene. According to him, Prof. Mirnawati has been the teacher and mentor for many of the leading scholars in the field and has a truly distinguished record as a skilled and dedicated professor. "No one does not know her. Prof. Mirna has always been close to the students. She has been an esteemed teacher and a vocal scholars for milk quality, "he said.

Prof. Srihadi said milk products are a source of protein. Milk proteins contain all 9 essential amino acids required by humans. Developed country people accustomed to consume milk. "Dairy as source of protein must meet rigorous nutritional standards, it  may contribute significantly to the competitiveness of the nation. Therefore we must develop and utilize for milk production. Prof. Mirnawati has played a very important role in dairy products in Indonesia. She was once requested by the Ministry of Agriculture to visit and observe to several dairy industries abroad who wanted to export its milk products to Indonesia, "he added.

Prof. Dr. drh. Hj. Mirnawati B. Sudarwanto, was born in Yogyakarta on 11 December 1947. She spent her elementary to high school education in Jakarta, namely SR AMPRI, SMP Negeri 8, and SMA Negeri 3. She obtained her Veterinary Medicine degree in 1972 at the School of Veterinary Medicne of Bogor Agricultural University (FKH IPB). Then she  pursued her higher degree program to earn her university and she graduated in 1974. She got her Doctorate degree program (S3) in 1982 at Justus Liebig Universit?t Giessen-Germany in the field of Hygiene and Milk Technology.

The scientific disciplines when she was promoted as the professor chair holder of Bogor Agricultural University was Veterinary Public Health. Research programs she developed before and after the promotion as professor is sub-clinical mastitis, food hygiene, milk microbiology and its dairy products, as well as animal production food safety. The best scientific work she achieved was reagents / reactions  for the detection of subclinical mastitis which was named the IPB-1 reagent. The IPB-1 reagent was developed in 1985 and officially used in 1993. In the course of time, IPB-1 reagents had been developed and modified to obtain stable, sensitive, specific and affordable reagents. (Wied)
