The Department of Management, of the Faculty of Economics and Management of the Bogor Agricultural University (FEM IPB) in collaboration with the Otoritas Jasa Keuangan (OJK Financial Services Authority) of the Republic of Indonesia organized a public lecture presenting the Vice Chairman of the Board of Commissioners of OJK, Ir. Nurhaida, MBA. The public lecture, on "Peran Sektor Jasa Keuangan dalam Pembangunan Nasional (The Role of Financial Services Sector for National Development)", was carried out at the Auditorium of Andi Hakim Nasoetion, IPB Campus, Dramaga, Bogor, on 20 November 2017.

Dean of FEM IPB, Prof. Dr. Yusman Syaukat, stated that the current economic development in Indonesia, either shari'a finance or public finance, poses a challenge for the banking sector to support the farmers' profession in order to gain the trust of banks to get funding injection. "The banking sector must be convinced that the agricultural sector in Indonesia which is managed by the industrial scale becomes one of the main capital to provide credit to the agricultural sector. Hopefully OJK ensures that the financial services intermediation role remains optimal in supporting the sustainability of the agricultural sector and national development," he said.

The present Rector, Prof. Dr. Herry Suhardiyanto, M.Sc., expressed his sincere hope that the  Public Lecture will provide opportunity for OJK to disseminate information on  the role of financial services in Indonesia for IPB for students, as well career opportunities in  financial industry. "So the younger generation can face global competition with confidence and certainty," said Rector.

Meanwhile, in his presentation, Vice Chairman of the Board of Commissioners of OJK, Ir. Nurhaida, MBA, explained that the financial services sector should provide  a major impact on national economic development. He said that Indonesia is currently one of the countries that received the title of "The Most Notable Improvement in Performance" of 19 rank increases in the ease of doing business (ranking up from 91 to 72). In addition, Indonesia was ranked first out of 44 countries in the world, Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD and Non OECD) on the high level of public confidence in government performance.

"OJK continues to undertake various initiatives to enhance the role of the financial sector as an important source of financing for infrastructure development, while supporting the national economic development agenda. OJK also undertook a series of financial inclusion programs, to ensure access to financial products and services by the community from all social levels. The initiative also includes increased financial literacy and consumer financial protection, "he explained. (Wied)
