PT. Bogor Life Science and Technology (BLST), Holding Company of Bogor Agricultural University (IPB) and Association of Indonesian Pest Control Company (ASPPHAMI) held “Workshop Nasional Serangga Perusak Bangunan / National Workshop on Blighter Insects of Building”. The event was held in IPB International Convention Center (IICC) Bogor (24/11).

Chairman of DPP-ASPPHAMI, Boyke Arie Pahlevi, SE, conveyed that this event was held considering many building constructions and their derivatives which had not noticed about the load bearing capacity that would arise and be resistant to the blighter building, namely among them termites and fungi. According to him, at this moment, the implementation was not optimal, especially in provinces, cities and districts. Therefore, he explained, through this activity it was expected to be the strengthening of the implementation of UU No.28 regulating the building construction, so that ASPPHAMI could guard the areas to make the Local Regulation related to the buildings which were better and able to maintain the quality of the building construction, especially the damage due to the termites.

Head of Office of Development Control and Settlement of Bogor City, Boris, SH, welcomed the initiative of ASPPHAMI. “Currently it is the right moment, because Bogor City is in the process of the Local Regulation related to the implementation of the building construction,” he said.

In this workshop, the forestry expert of IPB, Prof. Dr. Dodi Nandika, who was also incorporated in the Working Group of Building Pathology and Termite Control of IPB, said that the termites could become the threat for the safety of the building construction.

Prof. Dodi explained that the economic value of the entire building in the Province of DKI Jakarta was estimated to reach more than Rp 200 trillion. The investment value of this enormous was appropriately protected from the possible damage, including from the attack of the termite of the wood blighter and the building construction.

Moreover, he added, the research result of the Working Group of Building Pathology and Termite Control of IPB for the last three years showed that in the Province of DKI Jakarta it was found at least six species of the termites of the wood blighter. The six species of the termites spread almost in all kelurahan and subdistricts in Jakarta and quite aggressively attacked the wood in the surrounding. “It has been proven by the Team of IPB. Where only within three months, from 1,766 bait timbers grown in 84 kelurahan in Jakarta, of 292 bait timbers or 16.53 percents are attacked by the termites,” he said.

The map was expected to become the consideration material for the Government of the Province of DKI Jakarta in the context of the policy making related to the mitigation of the termite hazard in the Province of DKI Jakarta. In line with that, the Working Group on Building Pathology and Termite Control of IPB appreciated the Government of the Province of DKI Jakarta which had published the Regulation of the Governor of the Province of DKI Jakarta about the guideline for the termite hazard control in the building belonged to the Province of DKI Jakarta. Other resource persons who attended the event among them were from Director General of Cipta Karya Ministry of Public Works and People Housing, Kadin Indonesia, and LIPI.(dh)
