This involved hundreds of representatives of the working units and Student Organizations (ORMAWA) in IPB.

Head of BHPH IPB, Ir. Yatri Indah Kusumastuti, M.Si mentioned the importance of making Biopori in the IPB campus environment. "Biopori is part of the Green Movement. This is highly related to the preparation for the launching of the Green Movement on 22 April 2016, coinciding with Earth Day," she said.

Yatri said, through this training, the participants are expected to carry out and support the Green Movement by doing directly the cleaning-up, be able to make Biopories to improve the soil structure, as well as to plant trees so that the air around the workplace would be clean and healthy.

Meanwhile, the innovator of Biopori, Ir. Kamir Raziudin Brata, M.Sc said, this training on making Biopori is very important, especially to know the correct way to make it. "There are many errors in making biopori; instead of fertilizing the soil and keeping water in the soil, it can cause accidents due to the wrong place to put biopori, such as on the football field or in the home yard," he explained.

He explained, Biopori is primarily for environmental improvement. It refers to a number of small burrow tunnels in the ground formed by plant roots and soil fauna. He added that Biopori holes must be made in the ground with a diameter of 10 cm, a depth of about 100 cm or not more than the depth of the ground water level. Once completed, the hole is filled with organic waste. The function of Biopory in addition to absorbing water, is also to filter the water to make it clean, decompose organic waste, and keep nutrients in the soil. Biopori holes will be filled with air, and will be the passage of water. The training ended with the practice of making Biopory. (Mtd)
