It has been a long time that Bogor Agricultural University (IPB) wishes to have a green campus – environmentally-friendly and minimal pollution. Slowly but surely IPB is making effort to achieve the four elements of green campus: namely, green transportation, green movement, green energy and green building. "We make stages of the IPB green campus implementation, consisting of preparation and dissemination (2015), capacity building and infrastructure (2016), initiation of green energy (2017), waste management preparation (2018), green building reorientation ( 2019) and IPB green campus (2020)," said Head of Legal, Promotion and Public Relations Bureau of IPB, Ir. Yatri Indah Kusumastuti, M.Sc.
As the first step, in October 2015, Yatri, M.Si further said, IPB is testing and socializing the green transportation movement by integrating bus transportation, electric cars, bicycles, pedestrians (walking) and a reduction in the use of private vehicles (cars and motorcycles). Private vehicles are allowed to enter the campus aon the path specified. Gradually IPB is also adding more bicycle, developing pedestrian area that connects all of the building, increasing the number of shelters, providing private car parking lots and the electric car charger with solar photovoltaic cells. IPB has currently already provided 900 units of bikes, 44 electric cars and 22 buses. All community members can use the bicycles free to move around the campus.
Moreover, IPB is developing a portal of entry and an application of non-cash payment transactions, and providing workshops and technicians. "In the implementation of green transportation, IPB will recruit on-campus motorbike drivers to become employees of the transport system as a driver of green electric car, working in the bicycle repair shop / electric car, shelter guard, technicians, and other various jobs that support these activities. The levy cost of using green transportation will be used to cover the operational cost, in addition to the subsidy from IPB," continued Yatri, M.Sc.

As a means of payment using the facility, IPB collaborates with Bank Negara Indonesia (BNI) to provide an electronic card as means of payment. Later you just tap the electronic card while riding on the green transport.

In the implementation of green energy, IPB seeks to reduce the use of electrical energy from fossil fuels (especially those from the State Electricity Company / PLN) and replace with a solar cell. "We are also developing power plants using hydropower, biogas and bioenergy-based research for the development of biomass for the benefit of IPB campus. Hydroelectricity plant uses the water from the Rivers of Ciapus and Cihideung," said Yatri, M.Sc.
As for the implementation of green building and green open space, IPB restricts the use of Air Conditioner (AC) by improving indoor air circulation systems, reforestation of the parking lot in order to improve the comfort and beauty of the campus and the development of germplasm collections of agriculture (fruits, wood, etc. other). "Most importantly, IPB is continuously enforcing the green movement or green culture by changing the mindset, attitudes, and behavior to be oriented to friendly environment through awareness campaigns, massive social movements, development of green champions and so on. IPB will also build a canopy as a corridor for pedestrians and realize zerowaste campus by sorting and processing waste (solid, liquid, gas, organisms) as well as using easily degraded materials," explains Yatri, M.Sc.
